I'm surprised nobody has gotten this right..... Yes, Acidophilus is primarily for the digestive tract, but it also helps to promote a healthy internal ecology, which can help to prevent Yeast Infections. Here's the thing... you have to take it daily, not just when the YI comes up.
Taking Acidophilus on a daily basis will help you to stay regular, prevent YIs, and even help reduce stomach cramping in many cases (for those that have indigestion problems). For quicker effects (when you already have a YI), you can take some plain yogurt and put it in your vagina. Yeah, it's gross, but it's effective because yogurt has Acidophilus in it (which is what confuses me about the first answer) and Acidophilus directly fights against yeast.

We have thousands of customers that take Acidophilus on a regular basis, and dozens of female customers (and a friend of mine that also works here) have told me how well the Acidophilus and other Probiotics have helped to prevent their YIs. Try it out for a couple months and you'll probably see how much less of a yeast buildup you see in a couple months.

Also, to note, the other answerers gave good tips to help minimize the chance of getting a YI and/or help one clear up sooner (cotton underwear, showers instead of baths, etc)... but I wanted to make sure you got the right information you were asking for. Good luck!

I tried acidophilus, and it really didn't do any good.

What you can try, is eating more yogurt. Cut down on the amount of bread you eat. Take showers, not baths. Wear white cotton underwear, washing in hot water. Make sure you wipe front to back.

Hope that helps- yeast infections are AWFUL!

It sounds like you are consuming too much sugar. Sugar helps the yeast to grow, eat some cabbage to counteract the imbalance with positive bacteria, and cut way back on the sugar intake. Try splenda, it is not aspartame. Oh yeh, I almost forgot, wear skirts for a while, or at least wear baggies.

some women i talked to suggest red cranberry juice to help.
see what you can find out. full strength cranberry juice not a mixture. sister has told me that taking penicillin seems to bring it on also.

acidophilus is not for yeast infections, it is for your digestive tract.
