I have headlice. I need home remadies. I tried everything from using tea tree oil to Nix. Nothing has worked!!!

Question: It is really odd but Pinesol (the pine scented stuff for mopping your floor) worked wonders! As a child we suffered lice over and over until the pinesol "treatment".

Saturate the hair and scalp in it and rub it in, cover in a plastic shower cap, leave for about 20-30 minutes, wash out. Granted, your head will smell piney but the lice and eggs will be gone.

All the bedding needs to go into the washer with a cup of bleach or pinesol and hot water. What can't be put into the wash needs to go into the freezer.

Time to shave your head. That'll work. Plus you'll have an exciting new hairstyle that will look cute!

I know this may sound weird, but someone told my husband once that they used dog shampoo and it worked.

Coconut shampoo and conditioner. Lice hate it.

Our local health department no longer recommends using Nix. Because of having to use it sometimes repeatedly, it can be very harsh on the hair and scalp. Try using vegetable oil. It's messy but it does work. But even using this only kills the live bugs, not the eggs; nothing that I know of can kill the eggs. Once the eggs hatch you have a new infestation. Use the oil Every day for as long as you need to, this way you can kill the bugs as they hatch. And you have to use the lice comb diligently combing the hair almost strand by strand EVERY DAY. Getting rid of head lice can be a monumental task; lots of laundering, vacuuming, hair treatment and washing sheets, pillowcases, blankets; plus you don't have total control of the environment i.e. work, school, church. Hope this helps.

When i was a child my brother and sister plus me all had them, our dad got some phosphorus oil and rubbed it on our scalps, that did the trick ask at the chemist, mind you it sting abit but does kill the little blighters.

I searched through all my herbal medicine books and found this in Dian Buckman's Herbal Medicine

1 pint white wine (or white vinegar)
3 Tablespoons rue

Crumble rue into the white wine. Steep as long as possible-two weeks is best but, if in a hurry, use before. This is potent for body lice, skin parasites, or as a ringworm lotion.
