What are the best massage therapy schools in the world to consider?!

Question: I'm aware that Canada, Brasil or Thailand have good ones.

Answers: I'm aware that Canada, Brasil or Thailand have good ones.

I'm not sure if you are only wanting info on a "Massage Therapy Program", or any program that teaches you the science of "Manipulative Medicine." As with the MT prog. in Canada, where it's a 4 yrs. prog. and 3,000 hrs. of study, and the yr. prog. at the University in Illinois, which by the way looks very impressive, none of them has the extensiveness as the one in China.

This is a 4-10 yr prog. to become a doctor in Tuina (Chinese Medical Massage). There are also specialties in: Pediatric Tuina, General Tuina, Sports Tuina, Visceral Tuina, Gynecological Tuina, and Traumacological Tuina. Whereas there are 5 major hand techniques taught in Swedish Massage, Tuina has over 1,000 hand techniques. The study of Tuina not only covers Trad. Chinese Medical Theory, but Western Medical Theory as well. Therefore, you are getting the best of both worlds: Chinese & Western.

When comparing Western therapeutic modalities to Tuina, one would have to be trained in the following specialties: Massage Therapy (an all the special branches included in that form of soft tissue manipulation), Chiropractic, Osteopathic, Physical Therapy, and a Rehab. Specialist. A Tuina doctor does all the above. That is why it takes so long to finish the training.

So, when asking "What are/is the best massage therapy school/schools in the world?", if you are just looking at MT schools, the university in Illinois looks very good indeed. But, if you are wanting to become proficient manipulative medicine, which includes forms of soft tissue manipulation you may be aware, and many forms you are not, then you should go to either the medical school in Shanghai or the one in Beijing. You will see things you won't believe, nor thought was possible from a manipulation point of view.

I hope this has ans. you ques.

good luck

You didn't say why you were wanting to go to massage school in another country -whether it is just for your own personal growth or to be a massage therapist.

If you are going to practice massage in the US you have to check with each states licensing board to see if taking classes outside of the US would be able to be applied to licensing requirements.
