Question: I've heard something about how you can clean ears out by using a certain kind of candle and a styrofoam plate!?
I have no idea what this is about or how it could even be possible!. But, my mother-in-law said she watched her neice do it to her kids and it worked really well!. She said her neice's doctor told her how to do it b/c cotton swabs aren't good for childrens ears, which I already knew!. I was just wondering if anybody knew anything about this and how to do it!?Www@Youqa@Cn

Answers:
Ear candles, they are sold in most herbal/alternative med shops!. You poke a hole in any paper plate place the candle in the hole, insert the end into your ear and light it, You won't believe the GUNK it will draw out of your ears!.Www@Youqa@Cn

You can also use peroxide (like you would use on a cut or wound)!. Tilt your head on it's side, pour in a little bit of peroxide into your ear (or have someone else do it for you), let it sit for a minute or two (the peroxide will fizz and bubble in your ear while it cleans), then just tilt your head back the opposite way and let the peroxide run out (in the sink or bathtub!.) Afterwards, take a Q-tip and get any excess peroxide out of your ear!.

I would give that a try, it seems to work pretty well!.Www@Youqa@Cn

"Ear candling" is absolute rubbish!. It does not work, it does not "remove" anything at all from the ears!. In addition, it is potentially dangerous!. Do not succumb to this idiotic scam!.Www@Youqa@Cn

Don't know about that but this is what I do!.

Buy a bottle of "Sweet Oil" at your local pharmacy!. Take a teaspoon and put a little sweet oil in the base of the spoon!. Light a candle and warm the sweet oil in the spoon!. Take a piece of cotton ball and soak it in the warm sweet oil and place it in the ear!.Www@Youqa@Cn

You buy them from a health food store, you light the end on fire and insert the tip into the ear!. You can use a plate or tin foil to catch and ash that might fall!. Ear candles do work and are safe I use them all the time when my husband gets ear infections!. It gets rid of the infection and takes the pain away immediately!. Just make sure you buy an ear oil too to use afterward!. Good luck!Www@Youqa@Cn

Ear candles do not work!. They are considered a type 3 medical product by the FDA (meaning no conclusive research done to prove the benefits,) and personally I would not use them!. Some people swear by them, but I have never seen any evidence that they work!.

You actually light the tip on fire and let it burn, supposedly "drawing out" the impurities!. This is false as there is no way to create a vacuum in a human ear without doing harm to the person's ear canal and such!. People have actually been severely burned by ear candling and have lost some hearing, or have caught themselves on fire!.

The gunk that is supposedly drawn out is not something that came from the ear, but in fact the melting wax from the candle itself!.

If you want something for an ear infection, especially good for children, would be just plain ear oil!. This is something that is a combination of garlic, mullen, olive oil, and other supporting herbs such as calendula, st!. john's wort, etc!. Warm the oil in warm water before using, and place 1 - 3 drops in the effected ear!.

also know that it's very common for children to get ear infections, so don't always run to the Dr!. for an antibiotic, (that's another soap box for another day!.) Just keep using the oil, and if improvement isn't seen in a day or two, try using (highly diluted!!!!!) GSE (grapefruit seed oil) for the infection!. Nutribiotic makes really good ear drops with tea tree oil to help with infections too!.Www@Youqa@Cn
