Question: Adrenal fatigue.?
I have burned my adrenals.. I actually think I did it from drinking too much green tea and lattes.. Has anyone been through this and, how long did it take you to heal.? Please advise..Health Question & Answer

Not sure you actually burned them out.. There are a few diseases which people consider 'adrenal burnout'.. Here's 2 of them: Addison's disease and Cushings disease.. Both are related to cortisol (a stress hormone) level secretions: Addison's doesn't produce enough cortisol and Cushings is too much cortisol in the body.. These are very extreme cases of of Adrenal disorders.. and I'm certain you do not have these or you'd be seeing a Dr.. and not posting here..

There are so many factors involved here, not just the adrenal glands but what the other glands involved sending messages are just as important and could be effecting the situation: the hypothalamus and pituitary glands..

What seems to be happening is possibly an overstressed, overworked situation.. When our body is under stress it doesn't differentiate between running away from a bear or being late for an appointment.. It sees it the same, releasing the same anti-stress hormone cortisol.. It's easy to get into a stress state in this modern world with it's pressures, doing to much and over-stimulation.. There are tests that you can take to find out what your hormone levels are

Coffee can make it worse as it revs the system up then it tanks again putting more stress on it.. Then we want more coffee to perk up again.. also a lot of sugars and high carb breakfasts without protein puts the body in a high/low blood sugar cycle that can make it worse..

Herbal protocols....

There are herbs called adaptogens, as they help increase the body's resistance to stress.. They work in various ways depending on what your body needs: boosting energy, better sleep, mood improvement, better coping under stressful situations to name a few.. These are usually taken as a tonic, meaning every day.. I advise people that they will most likely need to change the formula after about 6-8 months as the body gets used to the herbs..

Some adaptogens used are......
Eleutherococcus, Reishi mushroom (one of my favorites), Astragalus, Ashwaghanda, Holy Basil (another favorite)

A good diet: 3 square meals a day and a snack
Possibly a B-complex
and Omega-3's

I went through this last year.. And going off coffee was one of the hardest things I had to do.. At the moment I'm not taking adaptogens and I've taken out a few stressful things in my life.. But I have to say that if I started on the coffee again I'd end up back to where I was.. And I LOVE coffee.. (all in moderation)

As a final note
I would advice you to seek a naturopath or herbalist to help give you some specific recommendation for your specific symptoms as what I've said above is by no means a diagnoses for how to deal with your situation.. It's just a suggestion..Health Question & Answer

The green tea had to have a lot of sugar in it to burn out, because caffeine is very little..

Adrenal control your fight or flight system of coping.. Staying awake when your tired, and not allowing your body to relax is what caused this problem..

Natures Sunshine along with other companies have vitmains that help support your adrenal system.. It takes a LONG time to get them working again............ A LONG time in case you didnt understand the first time.. NO ABSOLUTELY NO SUGARS, ENERGY DRINKS, COFFEE, SODA (even DIET)Health Question & Answer
