Don't be mean to them, they just don't know any better.. I feel sorry for them (the most patronizing felling of all!!).. Not everyone can go to university.. The world can be a big confusing place to a lot of people..
Doctors speak in this complex language that is hard to understand and do not often explain themselves very well.. The media has all this seemingly conflicting "evidence" about drug companies and foods that will kill you.. It seems scary and foreign..
Altmed is user friendly and has simple to understand pseudoscience behind it that appeals to a lot of people.. It is simple to understand and cures everything, nothing is beyond its grasp.. It supports a distrust of doctors/ drug companies, and reinforces the persons own fears and thus validates them..
Unlike real cures altmed is black and white.. Nothing is unknown or unsure.. There are no maybes.. The yes/no black/white also appeals to many people who want clear answers.. Most doctors would find a black and white answer unrealistic as they recognize the world is mostly gray and things do not work that way.. Do whilst doctors give a maybe, altmeds speak in definites and absolutes.. This is appealing as it removes mystery and gives certainty..
A lot of people who promote these cures aren't deliberately being fraudulent, they truly believe it themselves..
Whilst it is annoying to people with a medical/ science degree that these people are so dogmatic in their beliefs, and will post conspiracies and be anti medicine, you have to know that reiki/ homeopathy/ altmed will never be part of mainstream medicine.. So in the grande scheme of things, they can shout and blame all they want but they will never be accepted into the business of healing.. Which i find reassuring..
