Chiropractic Question?!

Question: Chiropractic Question.?
How do you know whether the Chiropractor is good or not, what questions should I ask.? Will they give out patient testomonies or allow me to speak to some patients {with their prior permission of course}..
What shall I ask.?
Should I go check the place out first.?
Do Chiropractors have any regulations board/certification, I am from the UK.?Health Question & Answer

Find out what else they claim, beside the usual "adjustments" of your back.. You already know my opinion of chiropractic in general, but I agree there are some good ones, and a lot of really bad ones..

If they recommend infant or child chiro......they're a bad one
If they advise against vaccination......they're a bad one
If they claim chiro can cure illnesses like diabetes or hypertension......they're a bad one
If they have a wall of testimonials from satisfied clients......they're probably a bad one..
If they want to sell you a bunch of products or devices......they're a bad one..
If they recommend full body xrays......they're a bad one
If they recommend regular adjustments, that just happens to match the number of visits your health plan covers......they're a bad one..

EDIT Stefanie F......I am extremely skeptical that your chiropractor had a bleed in his brain he cured with a cold laser.. Cold lasers are a gimmick....they are basically expensive versions of those cheesy laser pointers you can buy for a few dollars.. There is no skin penetration at all.. It is a placebo.. It' implausible......I would go so far as to say, impossible that a cold laser could have any effect at all on the body, never mind fixing a brain hemorrhage.. As always......feel free to prove me wrong with some convincing data..
You sound easily impressed.. Don't believe every fantastic story someone tells you..Health Question & Answer

In the UK docs are regulated, though I'm not sure which body regulates them, I'm sure a google search could knock that out.. You may want to check out the place.. Remember though believe nothing of what you hear and only half of what you see, as testimonials are great and I don't doubt people are typically genuine, but not always.. Ask their view of practice.. The general standards of what is being taught for musculoskeletal treatment in chiropractic school today is that adjustments(manipulation) coupled with exercise and correcting muscle function are the two keys to improving patients.. Finding and removing the cause of the trauma is another, whether the trauma be an accident, sitting in a bad posture, or being completely inactive, a good chiropractor should address where mechanical and neurological faults may be present.. Not all "good" chiropractors practice this way, but what makes them "good" is that they know when they are beyond their depth in a particular area and can refer the patient to the office best equipped to handle their problem.. In health care in general a "good" practioner must know their limits and not allow their ego to get in the way of treating a patient..

Side note- Cold laser is not just gimmick, there is a growing body of research behind it, though since it is relatively new, the depth is not quite where it needs to be.. It's action is primarily in the speeding up of mitochondrial action, which wouldn't necessarily lead to quicker blood resorption though.. Infant and child chiropractic can and has done amazing things in "untreatable" cases.. They just need to be certified and knowledgeable.. Other than that Skepdoc is pretty much right.. Watch for front end sales, a lot of tools and herbal supplement sales, and a doc who can "cure" anything- we can help with many conditions, since the nervous system does control every action in the body and providing an adjustment allows for the restoration of the nervous system to improve its function, this is still by no means a cure......comanagement is key..Health Question & Answer

I am unfamiliar of UK practices....but in the US it is regulated by the state board.. Doctors are required to persue continuing education ect..
I would ask friends or family first for referrals as not all chiros (or medical doctors for that matter) are the same.. Be wary of large pre-payments..

also, from my experience, if you don't have some indication of improvement after 2-4 sessions......try another chiro before giving in to the drugs.. If there is improvement......continue treatment for a while after you feel "good".. Many people stop too quickly and don't get a long lasting effect..Health Question & Answer

I have been to 3 different ones because when I move, I find a closer one.. The one I go to now is excellent.. He learns from different classes and has different equipment than most.. He is very knowledgeable and even cured my plantar fasciitis.. When I told him my pain in my foot was so bad in the mornings and gave the other symptoms, he knew and treated me and told me to get a water bottle and freeze part of it and roll my foot over it for 10-15 min.. a day.. After 2 treatments and me following his orders, I have had no more problems.. He fixes my headaches and does my neck with me in a chair, not lying down.. He keeps my head forward when he does my neck..

You can ask about his continuing education history.. My chiropractor uses cold laser which you never have to disrobe for it to work on you.. It opens up signals from your brain to your spinal cord.. He tested my strength and only needed two treatments to complete it.. It really works..

Don't be afraid to ask questions.. You can schedule a consultation and meet with him/her to see if you like his/her practice or them personally..

My chiropractor had a bleed in his brain and cured himself with using the cold laser.. I am impressed with his knowledge..Health Question & Answer
