Question: Is there another way I can perform an enema without the actual home kit.?
I heard there was another way to perform one on yourself, but I wanted to know if it was safe and healthy, or should I buy a home kit.? And if there is a way to perform one without the kit, please tell me..Health Question & Answer

I somewhat disagree with the first poster..

The reason for enemas are to provide relief for common constipation.. Yes, fiber is the best colon cleanser, but why should you have to wait around in discomfort for the undigested matter to move along your bowel.? And do not worry about washing away the beneficial flora.. Good bacteria can only breed in a clean environment free of the putrifying bad bacteria that can be found in constipated fecal matter.. Enema serves to wash out the BAD bacteria and keep the colon clean.. While I don't suggest you go in and do an enema every day, in the case of constipation or if you have a thick mucoid lining of the colon, I strongly recommend it.. It could also be used once every few months as just a simple colon cleanse.. Keeping your colon clean is one of the best ways to improve digestion, and an occasional enema will not hurt you even if your colon is fairly clean..

I do trust the body to regulate itself, but sometimes the body does need a little help, and I don't see what is bad about giving it that little extra help..

Enemas can be beneficial in instances where the person is constipated and doesn't get relief from just a laxative.. I used to have IBS and sometimes fiber and laxatives just simply DID NOT work and it just made the problem worse.. And I was extremely healthy and ate regular fiber to begin with..

I do agree that you should consult a doctor or nutritionist to see what the problem is first if you have severe constipation (as this could be a bowel obstruction), but I think for mild to moderate constipation an enema is safer than taking a laxative because it uses just water and works immediatly.. You don't have to wait overnight..

The only other alternative to an enema at home would be an enema at the doctors office.. If you are trying to give yourself or someone else an enema without using the proper kit, you could run into problems or cause injury..

It is hard to perforate your bowel with the proper usage of an at-home kit, but anything else certainly COULD..

Just buy a home kit.. They are reusable so you only need to buy 1..Health Question & Answer

You need to lie down on the side when taking an enema, breathe normally and take in as much lukewarm water as you can.. Then you are advised to wait a while, so that the water can do its bit inside before rushing to flush it all out..

You need to be in a calm and quiet environment so that the maximum water intake can be achieved.. I cannot understand how this could be achieved by anything other than a home kit..

It takes time, practice and a home kit.. also eat more fruit and drink water throughout the day..Health Question & Answer

Why would you want to perform an enema.?
The bowel is self cleansing....the best all time cleanse of the bowel is to eat a high fibre varied diet which in fact helps to scour the inside walls of the bowel of old debris and build up..
It always amazes me that humans dont have much faith in the human body.. When you introduce anything into the rectum and bowel you have the risk of bowel wall perforation (which can be life threatening) and at worst you wash out or kill the natural flora of the bowel which helps keep the bacterial levels in perfect balance..

When I went to see a colo-rectal surgeon recently he suggested the BEST and GOLD standard thing to do to keep your bowel healthy is to eat oatmeal or oat products on a daily basis..

Unless you are awfully constipated there is no reason for an enema.. If you are constipated you need to see a doctor to discuss why this is happening and how you can avoid this in the future..Health Question & Answer

Well, it is safer & probably better to use the proper kit,
which is not very expensive..

Other methods (hose from the tap, or shower), where you are using higher water pressure can be VERY dangerous..

I sometimes use a flexible hose, with a "U" curved piece of plastic pipe on the end..
You can do it on top of the toilet, but make sure the water is running at a very LOW rate, before you insert the end into the anus..

The plastic pipe should "NOT" cause a "Jet", & should with anal muscles relaxed allow the water to run back out.. (1/2 inch diam is fine)Health Question & Answer
