Question: My son is 2 mos.. old,he pass gas a lot and have stomach disorder, what should i do about it.?
Answers:
The first question is are you breastfeeding him or bottle feeding him w/ formula.? Both soy based and milk based formulas can cause the exact same symptom profile you're reporting.. If you're breast-feeding, he is more than likely reacting to something you're eating.. I would not worry so much about the passing gas.. Remember digestion is a completely new thing for him, and he IS only about 8 weeks old.. If he is pulling his legs up and crying out in pain, as well as passing gas, or if he is screaming or crying, this is when you should become concerned.. A few spoonsful of chamomile tea will help to settle his belly as will peppermint.. Make it about 1/4 the strength you would for an adult or make it regular strength and dilute it 75%.. I would NOT give him activated charcoal without checking this w/ my pediatrician first, as charcoal inhibits the absorption of many vitamins.. There is no danger to an infant w/ either chamomile or peppermint tea, especially when diluted 75%.. Hyland's also sells a colic remedy that many parents and babies find to be quite efficacious.. It sells for less than US $10 in most pharmacies..

If you are breastfeeding, pls.. look at eliminating garlic, chocolate, coffee to start with, and you may need to look at eliminating eggs, dairy, wheat, tomatoes, citrus, strawberries, soy, beef, as any or all of these can cause reactions in babies, as can green peppers and cabbage family (Cruciferae) veggies..

There is a belly massage called Sun and Moon you and your babe may find helpful.. Lay him down in front of you on something soft but firm--layers of blankets on the floor or a lambskin on the rug works great.. Oil your hands, and have his belly showing in front of you.. As he is facing you, begin to press gently and rub upwardly just above his LEFT hip bone.. Be sure not to press too deeply as this will hurt him, but do be firm in your ministrations.. Start slowly and shallowly and go deeper as his smiles allow.. Rub up his left belly (ascending colon), then rub gently but firmly over his stomach above his belly button (transverse colon).. You can also do little circular (clockwise) strokes as you go, as this will get things moving and help him to dispel any gas.. When you reach his right side, rub in a downward direction (descending colon), and when you reach the point above his right hip, rub over towards underneath his belly button and down (sigmoid colon to rectum).. This massage replicates the movement/passage of food through the intestines, and moves in the same direction the intestines "flow".. It is important you do not "rub him the wrong way", as this can increase discomfort, and cause gas, bloating, constipation or diarrhea, misfunction of his bowels.. You can also spend a little extra time on his left side between his waist and his belly button, as this is where his ileoceccal valve is.. Babies usually experience much pleasure and relief from this very gentle and loving massage, as long as you are soft, gentle, do not go too deeply and they are not a baby that reacts badly to having their belly exposed.. PLEASE do NOT feed your baby food at two months.. They do not have the enzymes yet to digest food, and this will make any digestion or allergy problems MUCH worse! Please consult w/ your pediatrician, and heed what he or she says.. Many people on this forum have no bloody idea what they are talking about.. I don't mind so much when they are responding to adults, but one must take great care w/ babies and children.. Most babies do not have any food other than breast milk or formula introduced into their diets (and bodies) until they are 6 months old..Health Question & Answer

when the stomach is empty, lye the child with his back on bed, take the left leg by the ankles very slowly bring it in a natural motion towards the right lower abdomen.. take it back to normal.. Bring the right leg similarly to the left abdomen.. Do this five to ten times as well as bring the toes towards close to the mouth.. No force to be applied, do it naturally and gently.. Press on all the points gently on the palms and sole.. If you are doing these correctly, the child will be smiling and enjoying it.. This will increase the digestion and appetite.. Constipation if any will be relieved.. Do not overdo.. Do it once or at the most twice a day.. with best wishes.. Health Question & Answer

I think minx could be right.. this could be allergy related.. My son would scream as an infant and seemed to have colic.. His stomach would get hard as a board.. It was very frightening.. He was breastfed but we did find out he was allergic to eggs later and I was allergic to orange juice as a kid.. I think he was allergic to something..

I agree also with the suggestion of activated charcoal....just be sure to use an infant dose..

For flatulence, Dr Christoper, the father of herbology says some of the best to relieve gas are wild yam, celery seed tea, and peppermint or spearmint tea, Carminitive teas/herbs are specific to the stomach area to sooth flatulent condition and to correct the digestive function.. goldenseal with myrrh, he says, is an excellent stomach tonic

others he mentions form the list of 75 or so are anise seed, bayberries.. cabbage, calamus root, chamomile flowers (that would be good), caraway seed, cardamon seed, catnip, celery, cinnamon, cloves.. coriander seed, cumin seed, dill, fennel seed, ginger, lemon balm, nutmeg, orange peel, parsley and parsley root, sage, sassafras, thyme, yarrow,

Many of these are likely on your spice rack.. If he is on pureed food, puree the celery or cabbage in your blender or baby food grinder..

carminative herbs contain a volatile oil that excites intestinal peristalsis, and relieves and promotes the expulsion of gas from the GI tact..

in light of this fresh herbs may be better or maybe new dried ones.. It sounds like it may both prevent and cause gas, but it is healing either way..

also be sure you are burping the baby sufficeintly as they take in a lot of air from bottles and even from breast milk

try burping the baby longer, checking for possible allergies and given in tea or tincture form (with tinctures you just use drops) in a baby size dose based on weight (example if baby weighs 30 pounds they would take 1/5 the adult dose....if they weigh 10 lbs they would take 1/15th....if they weigh 15 they would take 1/10th the adult dose and so on (see clark's rule at the link)

I would suggest that you take him to see a fully qualified Naturopath so that he can be properly assesed buddy..

It is possible that your boy has an intolerance to milk and dairy products buddy .................. many many people find it extremely difficult to digest milk and dairy products because of the lactose contained therein.......... Goat's milk would perhaps be an option for you.......... my daughter is 8 and is also lactose intolerant (as am i) and drinks rice milk fortified with calcium........ she says the Goat's milk tastes a bit like they left the Goat in it!! Personal taste i guess.......... feed your baby more fresh fruits and vegies also (pureed of course)..

The calcium found in vegies and fruits has a greater impact on bone health than calcium from dairy products anyways........ a study published in The Americal Journal of clinical nutrition (2002) found that a high intake of vegies and fruits has a positive impact on bone health, but dairy did not.. Dairy products contain animal proteins, which speed the elimination of calcium from the body and make it more acidic.. This can cause calcium to leach from the bones and cause problems with magnesium (essential for healthy nerve and muscle functioning and for heart health ~ known as the antistress mineral) absorption, leading to osteoporosis.. In addition, we absorb only 30 percent of the calcium found in milk, compared to 40 to 70 percent of the calcium found in vegies and fruits..

Cow's milk contains proteins that are difficult for humans to digest; when these undigested proteins enter the lower digestive system, they putrefy and cause digestive problems.. Dairy products encourage the production of excess mucus in the body, burdening the respiratory, digestive and immune systems.. Not surprisingly, when you ditch the milk and dairy people more often than not experience markedly fewer colds and sinus & respiratory infections..

Lactose intolerance can cause acid reflux, alternating bouts of constipation & diahorrea and will also lead to a compromised digestive system thus laying the groundwork for a body which is extremely susceptible to developing nose, throat, sinus, ear, bronchial, bladder and other infections as well.............. Other symptoms hemay be suffering from are mucous in the stools, bloating and cramping, digestive troubles such as constipation, belching and burping, gassiness and wet f*arting (sorry, no other way to say it), ribbony and stringy shaped bowel movements or rabbit pellet shaped movements are all symptoms of lactose intolerance..

I know that it's distressing when your little one is so young but really and truly, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying this out .......................... i sincerely do wish you the very best of health & vitality ?
