Question: Vitamin D is said to do a lot of things can anyone tell me.......?
Vitamin D is said to save one from cancer, heart trouble, arthritis etc and yet it is fat soluble and you can't take too much of it.. Tablets are in 10 mgs and also it is in many supplements of multi-vitamins..

can anyone tell me the upper limit that should be taken please..

I do have RA and OA and osteoporosis and not a good diet cos of allergies in that I also take calcium, magnesium, garlic, vitamins C and E etc etcHealth Question & Answer

I also have a reaction to UV rays (solar urticaria) and have severe allergies.. I have found that by using natural skin care products I do not break out from the sun's rays as much.. I try to get sunshine in the early mornings before the UV's get too strong.. I do not get breakouts when I do this.. But I wear long sleeves if I am out later in the day.. Some people look at you like you are nuts wearing long sleeve shirts or blouses when it's 90 degrees.. lol.. I also have a garden, therefore I am outside a lot so I bought a bug jacket that keeps out UV rays and it's great..

I read that the daily recommended intake of Vit D is 200 IU.. (1 IU is about ..025 micrograms, really tiny)..
Vitamin D is hard to get, except from fortified foods like milk, cereal, and supplements.. I make sure my cereal has vit D in it, and I also take a multivitamin.. Natural food sources are:
* Cod Liver Oil, 1 Tbs: 1,360 IU
* Salmon, cooked, 3 1/2 oz: 360 IU
* Mackerel, cooked, 3 1/2 oz: 345 IU
* Sardines, canned in oil, drained, 3 1/2 oz: 270 IU
* Milk, nonfat, reduced fat, and whole, vitamin D fortified, 1 c: 98 IU
* Margarine, fortified, 1 Tbs: 60 IU
* Pudding, 1/2 c prepared from mix and made with vitamin D fortified milk: 50 IU
* Dry cereal, Vitamin D fortified w/10% of the recommended daily value, 3/4 c: 40-50 IU (other cereals may be fortified with more or less vitamin D)
* Liver, beef, cooked, 3 1/2 oz: 30 IU
* Egg, 1 whole (vitamin D is present in the yolk): 25 IU
