Answers:
If you look at the ingredients of indigestion tablets, you are mainly eating small amounts of calcium and magnesium along with some glucose.. The purpose of this is to make the acid minerals you eat (mainly phosphorus), bind and get removed from your system.. It is the phosphorus in what you eat that causes the heartburn (assuming you do not have any problems with your kidneys or liver)..

Milk is high in calcium, but it is also high in phosphorus.. It is not an ideal remedy, and if you are lactose intolerant it may actually cause heartburn..

I find oatcakes are good for settling a mild acid indigestion.. Cheese is high in calcium, and to some extent it might be better than milk because of its lack of lactose.. So oatcakes and cheese, along with some magnesium..

Strangely, molasses is very high in magnesium and calcium whilst being very low in phosphorus.. This suggests, that a spoon of molasses in a hot cup of freshly squeezed orange might do the trick..

Banana is another good source of magnesium relative to phosphorus..

All the natural sources of these minerals, are probably not sufficient in quantity to match the boost you get from an indigestion tablet.. However, for mild indigestion or for prevention purposes these foods are useful!
