I went to a chiropractor 3 or 4 times for a lumbago. He fixed it for one season and the lumbago came back 6 months later. And it came back, and it came back.
I realized that chiropractics "fixes" only temporarily, but cannot help the body fix itself. Cf. those answers above where the person goes back every month!!! What does chiropractics fix.? It just does superficial maintenance. That's no good..
I learned kinesiology - which is actually based on chiropractics and developed by George Goodheart. My lumbago was fixed for good during a demonstration in one of the classes. That was 20 years ago. No lumbago since! That's fixing! That's terrific!
Since then (20 years) I have myself fixed any back problem, sciatica, shoulder or any other problem in my clients, plus I can work on organs and glands, the mental and the emotional etc...
I neither love nor hate chiropractors. I just think it is a waste of time to go to them, and having to go back and back is a waste of money. And that's NOT terrific at all!

2. there are two types of chiropractors
a) the one who will adverstise or state he/she can CURE thigns
and b) the one who state he/she wants to help you in pain and maintance care
type is a is the greedy quack who gives them all a bad name
type b is one is constantly defending the profession and type a DCs make it harder for type b DCs to earn a living
(type a is also the they do those 60 minutes segments on every few years because those ones scam and rip others off)
i think the idea of chiropractics is good, because the idea is they are 1. helping maintain your spine and 2. their adjustments help place the nerves back in their place giving some if not a great amount of relief.
out of the 3 i have been too only one is one i would consider a quack.
now half of my collegaues think the idea of chiropractics is just fraud (but thats only because they were taught by doctors who are still practicing and in their early 70s - those MDs grew up in a time when my profession and the AMA were specifically out to be rid of it) (of course back then MDs also wanted to be rid of D.Os, O.Ds, DDS, DVM,DMD and foot doctors).

I have used a few chiros in my time, but I tell you; what really gets me is when they meet with you, tell you that they can cure all of your ailments for only $8,000.00. Then if you question that, they start asking you if your life and health is worth that or not.? I hate that type of chiropractor, and there are many of those.
