Sleeping pills are medicine people take to help them sleep, especially if they have insomnia (trouble sleeping). They make you feel tired & groggy. They are prescribed by a Doctor.
People die by taking much more than the normal daily dosing. for example, I take 1 tablet of Mirtazapine 30 mg. every night because I have insomnia. It puts me to sleep. If I were to take the entire bottle in 1 night, I would overdose & probably die.Health Question & Answer

They make you drowsy/fall asleep. Like any drug really, in large doses (like, if you took the whole bottle) your body will be unable to cope with it and you'll die.

I think you'll need a doctor's prescription, though if you've got the right connections you can buy them off the street.

EDIT: Whoa, you seem to be taking too much of an interest in suicide. I hope you reconsider. There's organisations which can help you. You get rough times in life, sure, but it usually passes; I've had times in my life where there was nothing but despair, but it passed and life's never been better. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

Unfortunately i cant tell you much because i think you might use it for suicide (which isnt the answer, but im like the 1000th person whos told you that so you probably wont pay any attention to it). There is one over the counter non prescription pill: Melatonin. Its basically just a mass manafactured form of your body natural sleep hormone. That is why you cannot kill yourself by OD'ing on it, your body will just filter the excess out. You might get a headache if you take too much though but thats allHealth Question & Answer

They are tranquilizers. Not anti-depressants, muscle relaxers or anti-anxietal. They are most often barbiturates.
