Is it possible for my vitamins to be making me sick?!

Question: Is it possible for my vitamins to be making me sick.?
I have been taking a multi vitamin for a few days now, and I just feel really tired. I used to take them every day a couple years ago, and had the same effect. Is it possible that my vitamins are making me feel really bad, or is it all in my head.? Is there any one out there who this has happened to.? Should I stop taking them, or just start taking them at night.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Take them at night. There are 2 - 3 components in a multi tab that affect people with fatigue, or can trigger allergies.Health Question & Answer

Hi there, it's unusual to start feeling tired so quickly after starting to take a multivitamin - perhaps there are other factors also contributing to this.?

Some multi-vitamins may have fillers / excipients which won't suit you, especially if you have allergies or sensitivities.

They may also contain iron (check this) and if you don't need it, excess iron can cause fatigue (however, after a few days, the iron wouldn't have built up signficantly). Many NZ women don't get the recommended amount of iron from their diet - which can contribute to feelings of fatigue - so you may consider having your iron levels tested.

I also agree with an earlier poster about the idea of having too much (mega doses) of some vitamins, which may not be correct for your body and its requirements.

My advice would be to stop taking the product for at least a week and see if you feel any better / different. If not and you would like to resume, then try taking 1x multi with breakfast or lunch and see how you feel. Often the b vitamins can give you a bit of an energy kick and it may not suit you to take them at night, but we are all different.

And finally, if you still feel that this multi isn't right for you (and there are so many variations in multi vitamins!) go and speak to a qualified natural therapist who may be able to advise you in this area.

Good luck :) Health Question & Answer

Absolutely it could be the vitamins. I have completely experienced that. There are so many different vitamins out there and every person is physically different. What works for one person will not necessarily work for another. It sounds like the brand you are using may not agree with you. You could try a different brand and see if you find it makes a difference. I do not recommend the ones from the grocery store - I recommend going to a health food store and although it may cost a bit more, it will be a better quality and easier for the body to use.

If you really want to know what to take, find a chiropractor in your area who uses a technique called kinesiology. They can test for allergies to determine which foods and/or vitamins agree with you.

Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Vitamins shouldn't make you feel worse, only a super overdosage of a type of vitamin could do something like that. Usually people take vitamins after breakfast to help the body efficiency throughout the day, probably all in your head. Health Question & Answer

It's possible, if you aren't taking them w/ food.Health Question & Answer

I have not heard of that, but I know that my multivitamin always makes me nauseous to the point of vomiting if I take it on an empty stomach.Health Question & Answer

If consumed on an empty stomach you may feel nausea.Health Question & Answer
