Natural pain relievers or pain reliving herbs?!

Question: Natural pain relievers or pain reliving herbs.?
Are there any herbs that are pain relievers that I can take while having a headache or menstrual cramps.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Feverfew and Butterbur can help with headaches (most commonly for migraines, but some people extend that to headaches). As far as cramps, there's an herb called Crampbark (I kid you not, that's the name of the herb) that helps with cramps.
Now, if it's menstrual cramps that happen on normal basis, there are a few other natural supplements that can help quite a bit with "monthly issues" (and might even take care of that headache if that's monthly, too). The most popular ones would be Dong Quai, Black Cohosh, Vitex (also called Chasteberry), Wild Yam, Damiana Leaf, Motherwort, GLA (Gamma Linolenic Acid, commonly in Borage Oil and Evening Primrose Oil), and some Soy germ products.
Good luck!

Here's a list of things that I've used and have recommended to others.

Feverfew helps headaches, especially migraines but it's used over time as a preventative. It doesn't work well, if at all, if you already have one and take it as a pain killer. It it has helped many people with long term migraine suffering if taken everyday.

Low magnesium levels which most of us have, can be one cause of headaches. When I increased my magnesium and Omega 3's my headaches went away.

For headache pain, try white willow. It's where aspirin comes from, just it's natural form. Skullcap and chamomile are also good. As teas or tinctures. Rubbing chamomile essential oil or lavender essential oil on your temples and back of neck can also help

If the headaches are hormone related you may want to think about taking Vitex (Chaste Tree). This herb is one of the best reproductive hormone regulators. It may take 1-3 months to notice the effects, but well worth it when it comes to feeling better from cramps and headaches. You can get these in capsules. Don't take if on the pill/patch as it will cancel out what the pill does in regards to hormone regulation. (Vitex is not birth control)

As far as the menstrual cramps. I've had great relief from a combo of Wild yam, Black Cohosh, and cramp bark. These herbs are antispasmodics and work great for cramps.

At the beginning of your period If you feel boggy in your pelvic region like the feeling is heavy, the energy is stagnant, red root is a good herb to get things moving. You may not notice it as much the first period you take it but you should on the 2nd. Red root get stagnant stuff moving, Relieving the heaviness making the future periods better and not so blah.
Red root is a lower dose than the other 3 cramp herbs.

You can get these in tincture form (liquid extracts) from health food stores. I'd use the 1st 3 in equal parts (go by what's on the bottle) and use 1/2 of a part of the red root. (something like 1/2 tsp of each and 1/4 tsp of the red root) You may need to double the dose if you don't feel it with what's recommended on the bottle. Taking higher doses of these for a shorter time (48 hours for cramps) is fine. (As these are only suggestions I can't recommend taking herbs in high doses for longer periods of time)

You can dilute in a bit of water. I take this about 3-4 times a day while I have the cramps.

Try Valerian, it works for cramps and headaches, the downside to that is that even in capsule form it STILL smells like sweaty cheesy feet. It WILL make you sleepy though, but won't knock you out. Kava Kava took care of my headaches, and you can probably find these both at your local supermarket Health Question & Answer

Scullcap can work with headaches, especially if they are tension-related. It will relax your muscles.

California Poppy is a good pain reliever as well. And cramp bark, as someone else mentioned.Health Question & Answer

Marijuana is pretty good for all of the above.Health Question & Answer
