Provided you are healthy, and maintain a good diet and get regular exercise, there is nothing you can take to boost the immune system. If anyone says something will "boost the immune system", ask them which part of the immune system and what is the mechanism - they won't have an answer for you. The immune system is extremely complex, and you just can't boost it like a muscle.

also, you can't catch cold from the climate or from being cold. A cold is a virus. Spread by humans. Crowding is the main cause, which we do more of in winter. So avoid that if possible, and wash hands!

And Garlic, as mentioned above, if it is a "natural" antibiotic, will have no effect on a virus. Bacterial infection yes, viral, no.

Do not overdo the antioxidants, this can have a negative effect on immune response to infection - the body generates oxidative free radicals as a part of its way of responding to infection. Antioxiants like Vit C take up free radicals. Therapeutic vit C has not been demonstrated to reduce cold symptoms or longevity, in fact one recent study has shown a slower recovery period in children given large doses of Vit C.

Acai, Gogi berries, mangosteen, blueberries and my favorite by far is Kambucha. All of these can be eaten/drank seperately but for a 3yr old you might try throwing these plus some strawberries, bananas and honey into a blender with ice. Make it a treat and the kid will love it and not know it is good for them. With the kambucha I would recommend the fruit flavored as opposed to the ginger, green, or original. All of these things can be found at a health store. It also wouldn't be a bad idea for the whole family to partake and raise all the immunities, remember the less the kid is exposed to sick people the better too.Health Question & Answer

Stick to meats with good omega 3's (free range and wild meats) use organic foods. Helps lover free radicals that causes inflamation and helps memory and lots of other good things for better health.

Do limit the amount of grains eaten (depleats the omega 3's) and refined carbs. High glycemic foods can also be a problem.

Leafy greens helps the body produce more vit B's so a good thing to have in the diet and improves the immune system.

Eat more raw foods as they contain enzymes and more natural vitamins than any cooked foods. Aim for 50% raw and he wil have much improved health.

Yes, good healthy diet is important, however also keep in mind that the healthy bacteria in the digestive system also helps to keep the immune system free to deal with pathogens. For the sniffles, garlic and Vitamin C, I used to do a trick with my kids, twice a week we had heavy garlic in the dinner, that day I got some garlic pizza or garlic bread for "entree" after that my kids could not taste the garlic in the food, so I could give them therapeutic dose garlic, and the orange juice always been spiked with Vitamin C powder. so they get an extra boost from that. We never had problems with constant cold in the family.Health Question & Answer

I agree with the poster that said garlic-it is a natural antibiotic. also OJ is good, the little Clementine oranges are easily peeled by little hands too. My suggestion is blueberries-very high in antioxidants-you can buy them and freeze them. Frozen blueberries are a fun treat. Try dried fruits-especially mangos, they help with digestion. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
