Enemas only contain laxatives if they are pre-made, such as a Fleet enema. They are really just for a quick fix, not a colon cleanser. You can always buy an enema bag or bulb and make up your own enema. For instance, coffee enemas are very good for drawing toxins out of the liver. Wheatgrass or lemon juice enemas are good for raising the pH of the colon. Bentonite clay enemas are good at drawing toxins out of the colon. There are lots of different types of enemas. If you are just looking for colon cleanse, you could do a salt water enema.

I would recommend a colonic over a enema if you can afford it because a colonic can clean most of the descending portion of the colon and if you get a series of 3-5, you can usually clean the transverse colon also. Even a 2 quart enema just won't any farther than the descending colon.

In my area colonics run between $65-90/session with price breaks for packages.Health Question & Answer

Enemas have laxatives in them and they do not go through the entire large intestine, they usually only break up the feces that is to the most, 6 inches into your colon. You end up sitting on the toilet literally pissing from your butt.

As for Colonics, purified water goes through a much larger portion of the colon and everything is drained by another hose. You might have to use the bathroom afterwards to get the remaining water out, but your colon ends up being much cleaner compared to what an enema can do. Plus, they give longer lasting benefits after the colonic is done.

My close friend works at a spa where they do colonics and she says that a lot of people have parasites in which the colonic brings them out. There is a little window on the machine where you can see what is coming out of the colon and she sees all sorts of little creatures that have 10 legs and weirdly shaped bodies. It's quite scary to think that those things live in all of us.

One more thing is that you can keep getting a colonic every week if you want to. They say having it once every 4 years is great for the health of the colon.
I'm planning on getting a colonic when I get the money.Health Question & Answer

I have had both. I take an enema every day and a colonic once a month at home. I agree with allot of people here, buy yourself an enema bag and try it at home yourself.Health Question & Answer

They're certainly nothing to be sniffed at.Health Question & Answer

what is your result.? to empty your colon of all ****.?.? they are both effective and very unsafe.Health Question & Answer

You can do enemas in your own home. Once you buy the enema bag, there is no further cost. Many people use warm water (or filtered warm water), while others add coffee to the water. The theory is that the coffee stimulates the liver to detoxify. The bag holds about 2 quarts of water. Once everything is set up, it takes the water from the bag about 15 minutes to go into the colon. After holding the water in as long as possible, you will wind up sitting on the toilet seat for about another 15 minutes, releasing the water and feces. (Please note the enema bag is not the small laxative enemas sold in drug stores that another people wrote about.)

Colonic irrigation is like an enema on steroids :-). It employs a large machine that continually flushes water through the colon. Through another tube, the water and waste products are flushed out. I think it takes at least 20 minutes of flushing.

So the enema uses 2 quarts of water and does not clean out the whole colon. A colonic uses gallons of water (I don't know how much) and much more thoroughly cleans the colon.

It has been over 5 years since I did enemas and colonics. I had about 6 colonics over the course of about 6 weeks. Each week, the colon therapist added different herbs to the water. I don't know if the herbs made any difference.

I always got a feeling of well-being after either treatment. However, the results were short-lived for me. After one or two days, I felt the same as I did before the treatments. So I neither discourage or encourage either of these treatments. You might want to start with a cheapo enema bag and then graduate to a colonic if you want to.

Please note there are some risks attached to these treatments. I heard of one person with a spastic colon who had to be hospitalized after a colonic. However, if you are in good health, you should be ok. If you have any concern about colonics, look up enemas in wikipedia & see section on precautions.

Hope this info helps.Health Question & Answer
