Is it ok to use tap water with a neti pot?!

Question: Is it ok to use tap water with a neti pot.?
Answers:
Although it's not ideal, using tap water can be a safe option for using a neti pot. I have done this many times. Do take into account the water quality before filling up, however. Ask yourself, "would I drink this.?" "would I cook with this.?" If the answer is "NO" then don't do it!

Boiling the water and allowing it to cool before use is one option. I don't know the exact science behind it, but boiling might improve the quality of the water somewhat.

also, be sure to use natural sea salt in your neti solution. The tissues inside the nose are highly permeable. They don't need extra iodine! (--or chlorine, etc in tap water, for that matter).

If you have access to colloidal silver, a drop or two added to the pot before rinsing adds extra antibiotic/antiseptic properties to the already beneficial practice of jal neti.Health Question & Answer

If your tap water does not contain added chlorine, fluoride, water softening agents, etc...then yes it may be alright. You should boil and cool the water in a stainless steel pot to assure that nothing bacterial remains in the water though. Whole house water softening systems add to the salt content of the water and can cause burning or stinging when using your neti pot.

I use distilled water to be sure that is clean and pure.Health Question & Answer
