Answers:
what sort of audiology do you want to specialise in.?
ordinary audiology or Auditory processing testing
Ordinary is where you just do the straight hearing test.

Auditory processing disorder (sometimes called Central auditory processing or CAPD) is where the kid acts deaf. but the hearing test says they have perfect hearing. BUT the mother says that half the time the kid does not listen. Thats because the ears work fine, but the nerves between the ears and the brain does not work so good.

This is not covered by insurance yet - mainly because it is NOT in the official diagnostic manual yet. So practitioners can make up their own fee schedule.

CAPD is part of SPD - or Sensory procesing - which covers several areas.

Hope this helps.

I know all this because of personal experience in my family.Health Question & Answer

Are you trying to write an assignment for a course in Audiology.?

If so, then a personal statement should say something about you. It should say something about why you would take a course in Audiology when most of the world has never heard of it, even if that means why you're in medical school or whatever.

If that doesn't get some ideas in your head, then think about what life would be like for people who need the treatment that Audiology studies, if they could not get that treatment (or in this case, according to Sid's answer, what life is like for the people who cannot get coverage for it!).

Good luck :)Health Question & Answer
