Lovenox is an injection mainly given post-surgical to decrease the likely-hood of developing a blood clot. You need to look up Lovenox. Google it. I give this medicine all the time. Since it does thin the blood out, your grandmother should be having her blood level tested to make sure it is not too thin or too thick. Like with any medication, you can have an allergic reaction to it. Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are very common side effects. Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing are major side effects. Main side effects of a blood thinner would be bleeding. Think of things like bumping into something and bruising easily or brushing your teeth too hard and having bleeding gums. She needs to be very careful. Make sure she is not giving the shot into a muscle but rather the skin on her stomach. Measure about 2 inches out from the naval and insert needle there. Make sure to flip flop sides daily. Hope I helped you.Health Question & Answer
