Help with migraines...?!

Question: Help with migraines....?
I have gotten migraines since I was 4 years old, and after having many CAT scans, MRIs, and visiting doctors, the neurologist finally said that I get them from sugar, heat, and they are hereditary. Well I'm 14 years old now, and I get them a lot. But being 14, I love sugar, cake, candy, etc. Yet, I'm not allowed to eat it! And, I live in Arizona, so it's 125 degrees in the summer!! It's not fair! I can't go outside in the summer! also, lack of sleep is a problem, so I can't go to friends house. I have to be in bed at 9 o clock (although my parents have been letting me go to bed at 10 lately.) Is there any medical procedure I can do (surgery, etc) to get rid of them once and for all.? Even if I can't do it now, I want to do it sometime in my life. What am I supposed to do when I'm married with like 4 kids.? I can't go to bed at 10! The doctor's said I probably won't get them past 10, but I still do! And they know that. I have really good insurance so it's not costing my family a lot. My dad is a firefighter so our insurance is free. But, I currently cannot take Motrin (mind is addicted to it) and I am on prescription Ibruprofen and Imitrex. Any help here.? It's a real pain in the butt when I get it at school. I get headaches like every day!!Health Question & Answer

I had the same problem throughout childhood. It was typical for me to get them everyday during my teens. Seriously bad migraines complete with vomiting, sweats, lightening. Tried lots of treatments, diets, vision checks, allergies, even acupuncture which did nothing, and chiro which gave me a migraine. Very frustrating for Mom, too.

I did grow out of them, by say 15 or 16, now in my 40s and I haven't had a full blown migraine for years. But sometimes I do feel one coming on, I can deal with it with ibuprofen before it gets too bad, which was not available when I was a kid. I think that strong drugs are the only way to help. Anyone who has experienced a proper migraine will know that not much else works.

I hope it all improves for you, I'm sure it will.Health Question & Answer

I am really sorry that you had to suffer since your early age, but there is a solution.I have very low respect for the traditional western medicine and I would strongly advise you to find somebody who would teach you some very powerfull breathing techiques, abdominal breathing, there are many techniques that will increase flow of oxygen and open neural pathways in the brain.Even though you are very young this learning will help you enormously throughout you life in many other different ways.Advisable are acupuncture and shiatsu and combined with breathing = the miracle. And a prayers not to forget, for your own wellbeing and wellbeing of others.I will say a prayer for you but you have to pray to and healing is onits way. Many blessings and may you be well soon.Health Question & Answer

Definitely look into tyramine containing foods. They are known to cause migraines. http://www.webmd.com/migraines-headaches...

As far as OTC help, try magnesium and vitamin B-2. They will get to the root of the problem unlike most medications. Butterbur and Feverfew are herbs that have a pretty good track record also. There are two products that I know people have had success with that combines several of these products: Migrelief by Quantum, and Butterbur with Feverfew by NOW. also Natural Calm by Peter Gillam's is very good.Health Question & Answer
