Does 5mg of antihistamine make you tired ?!

Question: Does 5mg of antihistamine make you tired .?
I've been taking Zyrtec for a few days, and in the evening I get more tired than I usual.

It feels like I need to take a nap, but If I take a nap at 5:30pm. It would really ruin my night.

I hate staying up wide awake in the middle of the night. ~lol

Answers:
Most people do experience drowsiness with antihistamines. Occasionally, someone will have a paradoxical response and have an increase in energy. It sounds like your just like the rest of us. Just use precautions, and don't drive after you've taken it. Health Question & Answer

Altho' I can't give you the definitive answer, I can tell you that it does that to me too. All cetirizine based antihistamines do it to me. I have to buy a jar of coffee to go with it.
The fact that you have specified the trade name Zirtek suggests that either you have these on prescription or you are paying too much.... or both.
Firstly I would not buy Zirtek any more. Pop down to Wilkinson, Asda etc where you can buy generic (unbranded) cetirizine based tablets for 99p a pack which is way cheaper than prescription and a fraction of the price of Zirtek (TM) , same thing in a different box .
On the other hand these if are prescribed to you by a doctor you could ask to try something else as they have a bigger choice of antihistamines to work with. I get fexofenadine prescribed because it has no side effects for me. You may be different of course, but under guidance of a good doctor you can try the field a bit. ( I have had hay-fever for a whopping 33years so I do speak from a lot of expreience with antihistamines )Health Question & Answer

According to studies, 1/3 of Cetirizine (Zyrtec) users experience drowsiness. This isn't too bad for an antihistamine.Health Question & Answer
