What is the best way to get rid of old prescriptions?!

Question: What is the best way to get rid of old prescriptions.?
I know that we have all had this problem. When you go to a doctor for a cold and they write you out a prescription. Once you start to feel better you stop taking the medication. What is the best way to dispose of the extra or left over medication.? I heard you should not flush and I also heard not throw in the garbage. Any safe and correct ideas.?Health Question & Answer

Anyways, take it to the pharmacy you bought it from (or any pharmacy).
They will dispose of it.Health Question & Answer

You can flush them, the concern is when everybody is flushing their meds the water gets polluted but in reality there are a lot more chemicals being flushed than medication. Don;t throw them away because people might steal them to use recreationaly. If you want to do it the 100% correct way, bring them to your pharmacist and they will dispose of them for you.Health Question & Answer

Every Pharmacy in Australia should have a "RUM" bin [Return of Used Medicines].

Just take them to <any> pharmacy.

The contents of these bins are collected and properly disposed of in very high temperature incinerators.

The service is no charge. If you find one without the bin then it says something about that pharmacy - just go to the next.

Thank you for thinking responsibly. You are correct in your knowledge.Health Question & Answer

I'm not sure if they would do this, but maybe your pharmacist would be able to dispose of your prescription medications more safely than you could at home. Just an idea. Health Question & Answer
