I think the best and easiest thing you could do is make a salve. This way, you wouldn't have to deal with any gauze or making daily compresses or poultices, which can be pretty messy and time consuming.

1) Crush the comfrey leaves down into small bits, by hand or in a grinder
2) Fill a clean, dry, sterile glass jar right to the top with the crushed leaves
3) Pour cold pressed extra virgin olive oil into the jar, filling right to the top
4) Cap and place in a cool dark place for 6 weeks
5) Check every other day for the first week and top up the oil as needed, since dried herbs will absorb the oil, leaving a space at the top of the jar
6) After 6 weeks, strain out the oil. It will be a rich dark green
7) In a stainless steel pot add 1/4 cup of grated beeswax per cup of oil
8) Set the temperature to the lowest heat setting, and stir occasionally
9) Once the beeswax has melted, pour the mix into sterile glass jars
10) Let it cool, harden, and its done!

If you don't want to wait 6 weeks to begin using your comfrey, there is another method for making a salve in a day. It won't be as potent or effective, but it will give you something to use while you wait.

Instead of infusing the comfrey with oil in a jar, you can place them together in a crockpot or a pot on the stove. It should be set on the lowest heat setting, and should not exceed 100 degrees C. Let it infuse for 6 hours before straining and adding the beeswax as above.

If you want to add other ingredients that also help to heal scars, like Vitamin E, Rosehip seed oil, or essential oils, you would do so after the beeswax has melted, right before you pour it into the jars.

Edit
In response to Whiteraven - comfrey leaves can be used like the roots. The allantoin (cell proliferant compound) content in comfrey is greatest in the leaves during the summer, and greatest in the roots during the spring, autumn and winter.Health Question & Answer

Use Boiling water, but let it cool off enough that it won't burn you when you put it on your skin. :)

I'm not sure how long to leave it on. I'd do at least 20 minutes, could probably do for a couple of hours. It won't hurt you (though read below). Are you trying to heal a scar or an open wound.? Because I'm not sure how well comfrey works for old scars, though it probably would heal it a little....

For open wounds:
Be careful, though! Comfrey can get a new layer of skin to grow over a cut or wound in ONE DAY, -- which means if its an open cut it needs to have been thoroughly disinfected or the comfrey should be mixed with an herb that does have disinfecting properties, such as yarrow. Otherwise the new layer of skin can cover over an infection.Health Question & Answer

you need to use the root, but it must be grown in the ground for two years before you use it. Health shops sell the comfry in ointment form, and it is great for scars and acne. It is also known as bone knit, which speaks for itself.Comfrey also brings out any bruising...great stuff.Health Question & Answer
