A friend was just at the naturopath and was diagnosed with wheat sensitivity?!

Question: A friend was just at the naturopath and was diagnosed with wheat sensitivity.?
What are some good food substitutes for wheat, gluten, wheat bran, wheat germ, sugar.? He eats every 2-3 hours so he needs some good alternative snacks, because his usual choice is crackers or similar quick foods. And is Ezekiel bread a good choice in a case like this.? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.Health Question & Answer

Hi there, if your friend is truly sensitive to wheat -and many more folks are than realize, he will need to eliminate the offending culprit called gluten -a protein in wheat and several other related grains. This means eliminating wheat, spelt, rye, barley, and sometimes oats.
While this is a challenge in today's society, the physical results can be amazing. I'd recommend using rice crackers, etc. with nut butters like almond and cashew as a quick snack. Beware that wheat is disguised in many ways at the grocery store. Examples: Modified starch, steak sauces, flavoring agents... There are several great books out there for those avoiding wheat -one is called "Feeding the Whole Family" by Cynthia Lair. also: Healing with Whole Foods (Pitchford) and Staying Healthy with Nutrition. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

If your friend lives near a Whole Foods Market they have a terrific selection of their own gluten free products- breads, cookies, crackers, muffins, biscuits etc. in the freezer section. (My son never cared for Ezekiel bread.) They also have lists of all gluten free products at the entrance to each store.

A good brand of gluten free crackers is Blue Diamond Nut Thins. Soy Crisps are also tasty. Rice pasta is increasingly easy to find, and most large groceries now carry mixes for gluten free muffins, brownies, breads etc. on the baking aisle.Health Question & Answer

I also am wheat sensitive, but not very much, I just eat a bowl of cereal 2-3times a week and usually a sandwich for breakfast and then not too much the rest of the time. I try to cut down as much as possible, but I also work with flour too, tho not always directly, Would yogurt help as an alternative.Health Question & Answer

go with rice and corn even oats, wheat builds up yeast in the digestive tract and it imbalances the system sometimes. My kids are very sensitive to wheat products so we try to skip the wheat products i will also give them a acidulous which is a bacteria that is already in the stomach but it helps to balance the yeast and everything else.Health Question & Answer
