After a little while it gets easier, the joints get lubricated. I am only 51 years old.Health Question & Answer

It might be arthritis. Osteoarthritis is wear and tear arthritis, while rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition. The body is attacking your joints. Some ways to help arthritis is to exercise and stretch. The exercise strengthens the muscles which help support the joints. The stretching gives you full range of motion of the joint and helps restore mobility. Exercise even helps with rheumatoid arthritis because of its secondary effects. Exertion relaxes you and helps rebalance the immune system.Health Question & Answer

It does sound like a touch of arthritis. I agree with those who suggest to take glucosamine as I personally know of persons who have got relief from taking this for some early arthritic problems. also, you really should be taking omega 3 (fish oil) as this does wonders for joint lubrication. Don't forget also to eat lots of oily fish: sardines, sild, skippers, kippers, salmon (fresh and canned, fresh tuna and mackerel for example. You could also consider supplementing with turmeric or rosehip powder capsules as both contain anti-inflammatory compounds. Another useful one is Devil's Claw. The latter contains a substance called Harpagoside, which is known to reduce inflammation in the joints. It also has pain-relieving (analgesic) properties. Devil's Claw is contraindicated if pregnant, or there is gastric or duodenal ulcers.

Best wishes.Health Question & Answer

It is most likely arthritis. There a number of things you can do. An anti-inflammatory diet is one option. www.deflame.com has great selections. Glucosamine and chondroitin are also good options. But in all honesty if you are eating inflammatory foods like lots of grains and vegetable oils taking a few supplements isn't going to do much good. Pain medication is another option but I believe in pain medication only after all other things just aren't working.

also to comment on the lady above that says studies show glucosamine and chondroitin don't work...you should read in the study the average BMI for the subjects in the study was 31...meaning they were obese...if they are overeating and chomping on inflammatory foods...a couple supplements aren't going to make much difference.Health Question & Answer

Well, you're getting older.

I'm 51 too and I have noticed the same thing.

Maybe some early arthritis. Did either of your folks have arthritis.? My mother had it quite bad in her knees, and mine have started hurting more lately.

If it really bothers you, you could always consult an orthapedist.

Btw, I have taken Glucosamine / Condroitin for years. I don't think it does any good. And most recent studies confirm that.Health Question & Answer

I feel the same - and I'm 3 years younger. In fact, when I went to my doctor with creaky sore knees, she told me it was 'just age related arthritis" .... ahem .... I was only 45! Ok, I'm not athletic - I have 3 kids to run around, house, dogs, life..... you know. I take MSM with Glucosamine, Vit B complex, Omega 3, green tea ..... water ..... and exercise - taking 40 lbs off was the best thing I ever did. I'm still sore in the am - but after I move around, warm up and stretch for 10-15 minutes, I'm fine. Don't get started on pain meds - use only sparingly - they don't treat the problem. I also employ chiropractic care, massage and aromatherapy. Stay active - don't let your joints freeze upHealth Question & Answer
