Osteopathy vs Chiropractory?!

Question: Osteopathy vs Chiropractory.?
Which do you prefer and why.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Being a UK trained Osteopath i think I have something to contribute here.
Molly mac, What's the harm found about 12 examples where Osteopathy has harmed someone world wide in 15 years.
It involved a handful of practitioners mostly US trained (who are all practicing conventional medics)

It also mentioned less than 300 people harmed by Chiropractic.

In the UK there are 7 million Osteopathic Appointments per annum. In the US there are more.
There are even more Chiropractic appointments.
From this that anti-altmed website gleens less than 300 people harmed over a 15 year period.......

.........It neglects any mention of the 100,000 who die in the USA every year from adverse drug reactions!
And we are dangerous.?

Steven Barrett, the Author of Quackwatch, has never been successful in any suit he has bought to court in his relentless pursuit and persecution of absolutely anything that is not conventional medicine.
He has been exposed as a liar listing himself as a psychiatrist when he failed his psychiatry exams and calling himself an expert in Alternative medicine when he has had no training in alternative therapies and being paid to appear as an expert witness all over the USA citing himself as a legal expert when he has no legal training what-so-ever.
His Website is completely anecdotal, full of inaccuracies and mostly an account of the bad experiences a few people have had from altmed practice.

If this is your frame of reference I hope you enjoy reveling in your ignorance because this is no evidence at all.

To the lady who talked about Osteo's not being able to do adjustments anymore, that may be true in the US where Osteopathy has disappeared so far up the rectum of conventional medicine, US trained Osteopaths are conventional Medics pretending to be Osteopaths. Most have no clue on how to do manual therapy and refer to Chiropractors.
Those of us trained in the UK or Australasia stuck much more closely to the founders principles and still practice manual therapy and we can adjust like the best of em.

Skep doc, pain killers may be cheep but the consultation fee to visit a GP to get the prescription is not. In Canada it may be free but it isn't in the US or NZ
also they aren't as quick acting as manipulations can be.
I have taken many people out of Acute pain after manipulation of restricted joints (its not always instantaneous but can be).
The lady that I saw yesterday with an externally rotated Talus was very grateful after I adjusted it.
The lady I saw today with a really painful neck and shoulders was also very thankful when i adjusted C1 and 2 + the first ribs.

I agree some of the philosophies of the founders are highly questionable but the 4 Osteopathic principles still hold water today.

I think of osteopathy as a kinder gentler version of chiropractic.

They have very similar origins, essentially invented by odd iconoclasts working in isolation in the late 19th century. They have similar magical underlying ideas, and practitioners of both also claim to be able to heal all sorts of diseases besides just sore muscles.

If you really have to go to one, osteopaths are safer, and many have some medical training as well.

EDIT SUE...a strange claim that chiro/osteo is "faster" than taking a pill. That is clearly false, it is also far far more expensive.Health Question & Answer

Listen to Lightning!! I worked in the 'natural health' industry for a while and i think Osteopaths are fantastic. They treat holistically and often work in conjunction with masseurs and other professionals. My dad who had been going to chiropractors for years and years was finally convinced by me to see a friend of mine (an osteopath) and he would never go to another chiropractor now!! Definitely the osteopath its no contest.Health Question & Answer

Osteopathic doctors are very hard to find and are no longer trained to manipulate the body to ease pain.

I prefer to go find my chiropractors and massage therapists for muscle strains and jarring of the skeleton.

It feels better much faster than taking a pain pill!Health Question & Answer

Neither because both are dangerous. See links below.Health Question & Answer
