To me it sounds like something that happens between people either when doing bodywork, energy work or even just while talking. This is not something one is charged for, it is just what happens Some might call it a connection. A trade would be more like a treatment swap. It sounds like a gross misuse of the word "energy". I think the "therapist" is referring to new age healing energy, which is unmeasurable by any scientific apparatus, and only healers with special powers can channel it. Of course this sort of healing does not perform any better than placebo under good quality controlled clinical trials.Health Question & Answer
