Is Milk Thistle good for your liver?!

Question: Is Milk Thistle good for your liver.?
And why.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
my husband had Hepatitus C and had a liver transplant and he was told not to take it because it improves the liver enzyme tests and they are never sure if it because he would be improving or if the milk thistle was giving a false reading. this was at Mayo Clinic about 8 years ago. It was my feeling that had he not had a transplant already, that it would have been okay to take it to help improve his liver function.Health Question & Answer

Milk Thistle Seed Extract (Silybum marianum) is a bitter tonic, cholagogue (promotes flow of bile), choleretic (reduces cholesterol). Helps with inflammation of gall bladder & duct. Used to correct damage to liver caused by environmental toxins. Can help fatty liver. Raises bilirubin levels. Used for mushroom poisoning.

It is claimed to be a detoxifier of the liver...ironic, since it is the livers main job to detoxify the body. There is no good evidence to support the claim.
