Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means it is stored by the body. The Suggested Daily Supplement Range for Vitamin E is between 30 to 1,000 IU, this is why it is important to speak with your doctor, some people need more than others, and some less. Several foods contain Vitamin E, for instance, sunflower seeds, vegetable oil, nut oils, whole grains, soybeans and wheat germ, almonds, and peanut butter. Kiwi, spinach, and mangos contain small amounts of Vitamin E, so, if you eat these, you should not really need a supplement. While Vitamin E is generally regarded as "non-toxic" in high doses, it still can cause nausea, diarrhea, and in some cases dizziness and adverse skin reactions.
What you really want to look at this the total IU's you are taking per day. And if you have any of the reaction listed above, discontinue use for a while and you should be fine.
Hope that helps and good luck!

Actually, that's right around 1,000 IU, which is the upper level that Vitamin E is sold in. It's not unhealthy for those that need that high of a dose, but Vitamin E is fat-soluble, so it can build up in your system to toxic levels if you can't use that much.
The minimum for basic daily health is 30 IU and adults are commonly recommended to take 400 IU for optimal health, but 1,000 IU is commonly available for those whose diets are deficient in Vitamin E or for those who need more.
For a 14 year old, I would definitely recommend that you not take it. As for your mom, she could ask her doctor (or a nutritionist if her doctor isn't well versed in nutrition) if it would be safe for her in that dose.
