Question: Is it safe to take castor oil as a laxative.?
i suffer from chronic constipation despite a healthy high fibre diet and drinking plenty of water. i just wondered does anybody know if castor oil is safe to use as a laxative.?Health Question & Answer

Castor oil has long been used to relieve constipation but it does so by irritating the intestinal lining, so prolonged use is not recommended. Anyway, as ski owl says, if you're always constipated that is a cause for concern and you should check with your physician.Health Question & Answer
i would speak to the doctor about why you are constipated all the time. You don't want to use a laxative of any kind all the time. It is safe to use laxatives on occasion.Health Question & Answer
I wouldn't - it's a very strong stimulant-irritant, doctors rarely recommend it nowadays. Whilst brutally effective (explosive diarrhea is the usual result) it really ties your stomach in knots on the way down.Health Question & Answer
