Something that helps with circulation?!

Question: Something that helps with circulation.?
I think I have bad circulation because often my feet and lower legs turn a red/purple color, it doesn't hurt or anything and it goes away when I massage them but doesn't last long. I'm wondering if there is a spice or food that will help with this.Health Question & Answer

Herbally, rosemary, both the herb and the essential oil are excellent for circulation. You can also add it to a foot bath or to the bathtub, and to your diet. Ginger, cayenne and garlic have all been spoken about by other posters. Adding cayenne to your winter red wool sox is an excellent idea, believe it or not. I know it may sound rididculous to you, but try it, and see if it doesn't work!!! It's a capillary dialator and therefore increases circulation. Any member of the allium family will help with circulation issues, ie ramps, onions, garlic, shallots, garlic chives, leeks, chives, etc. etc. especially if they are sauteed for a long time, slowly, in butter/oil first and then eaten, ie carmelized onions. Butchers' Broom (Rumex crispus), compounded thyme and rosemary extracts, horsetail (Equisetum), and horse chestnut are all specific herbs used to increase and to heal circulation in the extremities. Chocolate will also help with this as it is warming/heating/tightening/tonifying and a very strong in antioxidant effect in the body. Use of fire foods such as corn, raspberries, wheat, coffee, beef, tomato sauce (marinara or bolognese) long-cooking foods, like stews, soups, roasts, casseroles, ie very hearty fall and wintertime food will increase the amount of heat in the body as will salt, and salt products. Do some research into Taoist Five Element Food Theory (See Elson Haas' Staying Healthy with the Seasons for the best book I've found on the subject in English.) Or you can google "Heating Foods and Cooling Foods" for more info. If the problem persists or worsens, you may want to have yourself assessed for Reynaud's Syndrome, which is characterized by an inability to keep the extremities warm, and is a kidney/adrenal disorder. If you are dealing w/ DVT's or Deep Venous Thrombosis, a) This is a potentially life-threatening condition, and you must get medical help without fail!!! b) Do NOT massage the leg if you are diagnosed w/ DVT's as this can dislodge a clot and potentially kill you. Usually, one would not have DVT's without swelling, pain, oftentimes a fever that will not go away, a sense that something in the body is seriously, seriously amiss, a sense of impending doom, and pain in the muscles of the leg below the clot. These symptoms do not always occur, however. DVT is often called the "Silent Killer", just exactly because it does not always have any symptoms until it is way too late. Pulmonary embolism, strokes and heart attacks are all possible sequelae of DVT. You should also be assessed for cellulitis.Health Question & Answer

I used to have that too! My toes would be purple and I freaked out. I then discovered Power Herb's Venocare which has Horesechestnut as main ingredient and other synergestic herbs (I think ginger and Butcher's broom). It specifically targets legs. also when I added lemon bioflavonoids it worked even better. The worse of my bad leg circulation/leg pain was during the start of that time of the month. So I'd then take 300mg of COQ10 and vitamin E together. That relieved the symptoms in 30 minutes! Amazing!!!

You can find the above supplements online as brand names greatly discounted at www.iherb.com and they ship superfast so wherever you are you could get your order in 2 days.

I am not a doctor but suggest you see one, I have had two Friends that had the problem and they had a problem with the valves in the veins not working properly and the blood would pool up in the legs. I think it's called thrombosis of the veins but not sure. But I would suggest you Talk to a Doctor before you do anything.. Or Take anything for it.Health Question & Answer

The condition you're describing sounds a lot like deep vein thrombosis. This condition can be caused by simply being overweight, or more alarmingly by a clotting disorder, or by a valvular disease, or even diabetes. Go see a doctor. Don't waste your time listening to a bunch of people who have no clue what protein S deficiency is, and will simply tell you to take an herb and ignore what could be an early sign of an easily treatable condition.

Seriously people, alternative medicine may have its place but it cannot take the place of modern medicine in a possibly lethal condition. I've known people who died from disorders related to thrombosis. One had a pulmonary embolism, another developed a clot in their stomach. And there are many other ways to die from this. GO SEE A DAMN DOCTOR.Health Question & Answer

Ginger is great for the extremities...capsules, tea, crystalized ginger - any of them a few times a day. One of the best herbs used for circulation is Cayenne Pepper....capsules, tincture (hot!) again taken at least 2 times per day to see results. Doesn't take long with Cayenne...read up on it a bit for dosage or ask..but what I recommend 90% of the time.Health Question & Answer

Yes there are natural foods for this, and they are at your produce section, in your local grocery store. Hot peppers and Garlic will do what you are wanting to do as well as ginger. You can experinent with different ways of ingesting them that are tasty. raw is best. Add them to a salad and have fun . I hope I've helped you.
Health Question & Answer

Aerobic exercise is great for the circulatory system. Take one bike and ride it once or twice a day for an hour or as prescribed by your medical practitioner.
