I am young and i want to avoid this because it has appeared in my family a few times as the worst pain ever so I of course do not want to have this happen to me..

I have had kidney stones and am also very young, and can tell you that drinking water helps you pass the stones, (pressure of water helps to pass them from the ureter). It also helps to stay really hydrated because the water level in your kidneys will stay high, (above the stones). When you become de-hydrated, the water level drops and the kidney stones can pass down into the ureters, (two very tiny tubes leading from either side of each kidney that lead to the bladder). When the stone gets into the ureter, it begins to spasm, trying to pass it through. The walls of the ureter also become scraped by the stone. When they test to see if your pain is caused by kidney stones, they usually test your urine for trace amounts of blood caused by this, if it is present, they do an MRI and look at the ureters.

Kidney stones are formed with different causes, large amounts of calcium being one of the most common, a urologist, (a special physician which your family doctor or the E.R. physician can refer you to) can test the stones to find out what they are comprised of. You have to use those "birthday hat" paper strainers when you pee, which filter the urine, and catch the stone and save it, (or them). The doctor will give you these, if he doesn't, just ask.

I happen to live in Florida and there have been an increased number of young people having kidney stones here because the aquifer in Florida is comprised of limestone, the water filters over it, picking up the minerals, namely large deposits of calcium.

If you are drinking from a well, you most likely also experience this problem, because of mineral-rich water. If your kidney stones are comprised of calcium you can help your body out and reduce the formation of stones, (less stones to pass, less pain) by reducing your calcium intake, (if you have calcium kidney stones, you already have too much calcium in your blood).

Buy bottled water, namely distilled water.

Don't eat any cranberries, I know people will tell you they're good for your kidneys, and normally they are good for kidney and urinary track health but when you have kidney stones, cranberries make them worse. I didn't know this and was taking cranberry supplements every day. My urologist told me that cranberries contain oscillates, which increase the bonding of calcium. Causing more kidney stones to form, and became larger than they would've been.
Don't eat greens, same reason.

I'm sure you don't need to be told, kidney stones are VERY painful, I've been told by some people, that they had less pain during childbirth, and I can believe it! For people who might think they have them, it starts as a low pain in your flank, (to one side of your very lower back) and tends to wrap around to the front. It will become severe, often over a matter of hours, to the point that you will usually vomit, (although I have actually passed out from it before).

I hope this helps and I really, sincerly hope you feel better!

Good advice from SpinSpin. (I don't know about the cranberry issue, but everything else is right on.)

Ask your doctor, but I expect that drinking the water, even with it being high in minerals, would be much better than not drinking it. But, obviously, if you can remove the minerals, that would be better still.Health Question & Answer

Under such circumstances it is better to to boil the water for 10 minutes after it starts boiling and then filter it and store for consumption at least two liters per day.An aliphatic doctor will suggest for an operation.I do not know from where you have been writing. There are Homeopathic medicines which can cure you without any surgery.Get back to me for further details so that I can be of help to you.Health Question & Answer

The concentration of minerals in the well water is very low compared to the normal concentration in urine. Drinking water keeps the urine dilute so that the minerals cannot precipitate out as stones.Health Question & Answer

drinking well water should not make it worse. but if you want to be cautious you can boil the water for about 20 minutes to 30minutes.Health Question & Answer
