How many of you have faith in Homeopathy?!

Question: How many of you have faith in Homeopathy.?
Answers:
It's not matter of faith.
There is a growing evidence of effectiveness of homeopathy. When I studied with Dr. Andrew Weil, one of our faculty was Dr. Iris Bell who has MD and PhD and has published many of the findings.

I know that for myself, I was a skeptic at first, but given evidence and effectiveness for myself, my family, and patients, I believe that homeopathy has a role for helping people to heal.

We still do not know how it works but there is a growing body of evidence stating that it seems to work. For those who simply insist on placebo results, there are animal studies that show effectiveness.

Health Question & Answer

"Having faith" in homeopathy (or any field) without studying it yourself to know what is fraudulent and what is sound is not a good idea. Become knowledgeable and learn as much as you can about the topic. Read reviews by experts in the field and in well-respected mainstream medicine and THEN decide if it's something that you should pursue.
mHealth Question & Answer

Nope. I tried it some time ago before I really understood what it was. It didn't do a thing for me, and I'm not surprised. I don't think the principles are sound at all, with the whole idea of diluting something down to its tiniest essence under the theory that it somehow becomes more "powerful" that way, and then administering that in a sugar tablet.

I do however believe that herbal medicine and aromatherapy can be beneficial, but that's not the same thing at all. Homeopathy is a complete waste of time. Health Question & Answer

I more faith in homeopathy than pharmaceuticals. I have done research through the FDA website on certain pharmaceuticals, on top of using them at the prescription of the doctors they seduce with material wealth, and lost quite a bit of faith in them (Pharm) in general.

I have used homeopathic sources and products and have only good things to say about my experiences with them. Health Question & Answer

None, whatsoever, beyond a placebo effect. They are selling you water in little bottles. It is a fraud which has been given legality a bullying lobby effort sanctified by a superstitious tradition.

It is funny reading people who say they use homeopathy because the drug companies are lying and ripping you off. Homeopathy substitutes a real fraud for a perceived one.Health Question & Answer

Homeopathy has been shown in literature to have no effect other than a placebo effect. i.e people get better because they expect to, not due to any action from the homepathic substance. On the other hand the placebo effect may be strong and if something makes you feel better then that "works" for you.Health Question & Answer

To the first answerer- Oil of Oregano and Cloud Tea are NOT homeopathy- Oregano works because it is a natural anti-bacterial. I'm fully into naturopathic medicine, using substances that have biochemical actions- vitamins, herbs, etc.

Sorry, but Homeopathy is the ultimate fraud- you want to spend $30.00 on an ounce of water, go ahead! There has never been even ONE properly-designed experiment that has shown homeo to have any effect whatsoever. People give anecdotal evidence for support of it; but it's just the placebo effect plus their immune system and time that affect the cure. Read this for more info:

not really so much 'faith' but common sense for me, our grandparents and ancestors didn't use synthetic drugs they had to use natural cures, there weren't as many people dying from cancer and preventable diseases either..i am a firm believer in homeopathic medicine..i just wish it was fully legal in the united states...Health Question & Answer

I do. I take Homeopathy Sepia for mood swings. Its great. no yucky side effects like prescription medicine. My dad (a firefighter) has been taking them for years as well for scrapes and bruises and he doesn't have allot of scars because of it. also if you are taking other medication that you have to take, taking homeopathic medicine will not interfere with your prescription stuff. Its completely safe. So I'd say its a good thing to try. You can get them at any health food storeHealth Question & Answer

I do...I don't know if this is the same thing...but last year I went to the doctor because I had a urinary tract infection. They gave me strong antibiotics, but my mom is sort of against them...she told me to try some stuff from the health food store and drink lots of pure cranberry juice, not like ocean spray...real cranberry juice. I did and it cleared up on its own. I didn't even need the antibiotics...Your body is meant to heal itself. I believe there are some things you need antibiotics for etc...but I think doctors hand them out way too much....and people get dependent on them.Health Question & Answer

It doesn't take faith.

Some medicine works well; some doesn't. Sometimes nothing can be done.

These folks have another path - that's why it's called alternative medicine.

My mom is 86 years old, survived minor cancer twice, and is sharp as a tack. It's worked for her.

She may outlive me!Health Question & Answer

I tried it, did not work for me. It's all psychological, if you want to be healthy, eat well, get enough exercise. Don't take medication so that your body doesn't depend on them. For instance, I don't take Tylenol when I have a headache, I take a shower, drink tea, and go to slopeHealth Question & Answer

But faith or no faith it works on animals and plants also :)Health Question & Answer

The subject is heavily debated. As for myself, I personally think homeopathy = placebo.

complete hoax if u ask me as part of health profession Health Question & Answer

Some respondents here do not know the difference between homeopathy and herbs. The differences are simply HUGE. Until about 1920-1958, up to 80% of the US Pharmacopoeia was herbal and/or mineral. That is to say for the first 350 years of medicine in this country, 80% of it was natural, and herbal or mineral based. I can name you 25 herbal medicines/drugs, right this minute that are still used in modern medicine to this minute, right now, today. It's not a case of progress necessitating that we undo all the lessons of the past or that we start all over again and rebuild the wheel, or re-gild the lily. Some of the old ways worked in fact, and still do. It is necessary to watch closely that "god" of "innovation" and "progress". Progress isn't always. Yes, some homeopathic remedies are herbal, ie Allium cepa, Staphysagria, Pulsatilla, Thuja, Rhus. tox, Chamomila, many, many more. No herbal remedy is homeopathic, as I understand the meaning and methods of classical homeopathy. Homeopathy is energy medicine. If one were to macroassay a homeopathic remedy to see if there were any actual presence of an herb still in it, one would find there is not! Homeopathy works on a "less is more" basis. It is energy medicine. The more times a mother tincture is diluted and succussed (shaken rhythmically), the more powerful it is found to be in homeopathy, which is the opposite of how a drug is found to be potentized in allopathic medicine (ie, the more the presence of a substance, the more powerful the drug is seen to be.) The more scientifically based respondents on this forum usually scream about this and state that this is neither chemically nor phyiscally possible. (Some of these folks also state that microwaves, cell phones, ultrasound, and radiation can't hurt one, either...all of which is untrue, and is certainly an illustration of "selective thinking" if I ever have heard one...) I am not going to take on the discussion of bio-energetics, acupuncture, anthropomorphic fields, essence signatures, meridians, and vibrational healing here, but suffice it to say that I do not take homeopathy on "faith", but use it on my plants, children, animals, relatives, friends and self because I have found it to work, and to work with no toxicity, no side effects, no ill effects, no negative outcomes period. Suffice it also to say that in the 1700's and early 1800's in this country, THE BEST and most renowned/sought after medical schools were homeopathic. Do some research on the AMA's expressly stated mission to put all competitors out of business in as quick a timeframe as possible. Those competitors included midwives, chiropractors, homeopaths, acupuncturists, herbalists, and every single other alternative practitioner in existence, then and now. It would seem to me to be a piece of wisdom, NOT of blind faith, to recognize the severe limitations of one's own field, the facts that in many, many places, stats showing good or successful outcomes (ie healing) as well as patient satisfaction have often declined under allopathic medicine's reign, rather than improved. Example, much of the world uses homebirth and midwifery services for childbirth. Homebirths and midwifery assisted births have STATISTICALLY MUCH LOWER rates of fetal, neonatal and maternal morbidity, and statistically MUCH HIGHER rates of maternal/parental satisfaction than does hospital birth, even in high risk pregnancies. The USA currently posts as 18th in the world in neonatal survival rates, not first as its propaganda would have the rest of the world believe. As much as you are trying to imply that those who use homeopathy lack critical thinking skills, I REQUIRE you to understand that allopathic medicine has simply replaced one god, one religion, one healing modality with another, whose proponents and practitioners are even more arrogant, and more blind than you. At least homeopathy is not responsible for the surgical maimings, death, disfigurement, chemical poisonings and misdosings, some with permanent, lifelong sequelae, and deaths, disfigurements, dashed hopes, lifelong sequelae from radiation burns/poisoning that are the hallmarks of the only 3 modalities allopathic medicine has in its bag of tricks. No one has EVER died from homeopathy, that I'm aware of. If the wrong remedy is chosen, it simply doesn't work, period. Tell me that's true of surgery, drugs or radiation.Health Question & Answer

None at all, it does not work. There is no scientific basis or plausible rationale behind Homoeopathy at all. Water is diluted to such an extent there is not a single molecule of any active substance left (!!)

Homoeopaths believe that water has a memory, "through the process of potentisation, the water remembers the 'essence' of the mother tincture that was once dissolved in it" This really is quite a ridiculous statement.

Homoeopathy is basically pseudo-science and after thousands of double -blind studies has time and time again been debunked and disproved as having anything more than the Placebo effect. It is simply quackery and now the 'Homeoquacks' claim it is not subject to scientific and clinical evidence!

To conclude; Homeopathic 'remedies' are simply water or sugar pills that have been dipped in water. It really all depends on what you want, if you want a belief system rather than a system of medicine, then Homoeopathy is the way to go . It really is little more than sympathetic magic! The power of the mind is a wonderful thing.

I await the usual thumbs down from the alternative therapy brigade.Health Question & Answer

Whether you have faith, which does increase the likelihood of a placebo response, or not, homeopathy has now been shown in many studies to have no effect at all.

The problem is that unlike acupuncture which has now been successfully debunked, by work that showed it to be no more effective than random needle sticks, to be scientifically debunked one might argue that each individual homeopathic 'remedy' would have to be trialled in a double blind cross over trial against placebo to prove it was ineffective.

Indeed so far all those trialled have to date been shown to be worthless and though I have no doubt that all the others will prov equally useless when tested, I have to admit that, at least scientifically this is surmise.

The best analogy I have yet come across was from Univardis, an on line medical site. here one of the experimenters compared expecting homeopathy to work to throwing a pint of water in to a reservoir and then expecting to get drunk on the water!

Rhianna my sweet, I have given you a thumbs up, personally I went as far as a taking a homeopathy course to ensure I had enough knowledge to form an evidence based opinion, I have many of the standard homeopathic textbooks, they sat in my surgery, together with books on herbalism and other alternative/complimentary therapies not because I believed that they work, but so that I could say my judgement as to their failure was science based and not dogma.Health Question & Answer
