Tens Machine Help if anynone can?!

Question: Tens Machine Help if anynone can.?
Hello

I have recently bought a tens machine for my mom. She has never used one before, but it is to relieve back pain and neck pain (it's a dual action one to do both at the same time)

The instructions aren't very clear, but it says to start at the lowest setting and work your way up. She has worked up to level 3 since she had it (about 4 days) but now she has stiff muscles in exactly the same place she had the pads. I was wondering:

1. How much time should you leave between 15 minutes sessions.?
and
2. How quickly should she be working up the settings.?

Any help would be great thanks.Health Question & Answer

Hi: I have used a tens machine for general relaxation and to overcome chronic fatigue. In my opinion, there are no strict answers to your questions. Everybody is different and has to find out the levels and times for themselves.

Since your mom has had negative reactions in the same place she had the pads, it can mean a number of things. Most likely, she should go back to a lower setting, back to 2 or even 1. I don't mean to sound sarcastic, but this isn't a race to see how fast a person can increase the levels. For your mom, it sounds like she should take it easy with going up the levels.

Likewise, it might be better to use the machine for 10 minutes instead of 15. More is not always better, especially if she is feeling more stiff. Feeling worse is a signal she should listen to.

I don't know anything about your mom's condition, but probably she should use the tens no more than twice a day at this point. As time goes on, she can keep increasing how often she uses it. Likewise, she can slowly move from 10 up to 15 minutes. The same goes with working up the levels.

It sounds like she is working alone with the tens, so she will just have to listen to her body. The tens is unlikely to lead to instant improvement. However, your mom should not get discouraged and increase the levels and the times too quickly. Be well.Health Question & Answer
