There are two types of omega 3 fatty acids. Actually, the experts recommend that omega 3 fatty acids (especially DHA) are crucial for proper development of the brain and nervous system.
The best choice would be fishes (Alaskan salmon); however, given there are dangerous contaminants from PCB to heavy metals, the recommendation, actually is high quality supplement of omega 3 fatty acids including Nordic Naturals, Metagenics, and Vital Nutients.
I recommend a syrup with lemon flavor. You can also mix with apple sauce and other foods.

Fish and Flax are the two foods with the biggest quantities, but there are many other foods that have smaller amounts in them. If you're concerned about the Omega-3 content he is getting, those would be the first ones to look at. Some foods in the marketplace add Omega 3 fatty acids (mostly as marketing hype because they are popular right now, but they still help), too, so there are other options. Pretty much any source of Omega-3 will help with cardiovascular health and skin health, but Fish Oil will also help with brain health, which is what many parents are more interested in.
Fish sticks would probably be the first try if he likes fish sticks... it would be better than nothing. For the long term, I'd start looking around for children's Fish Oil pills (in small softgels or chewable pills)... some are even fruit flavored. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
