What is the best pro-biotic to take after antibiotic use?!

Question: What is the best pro-biotic to take after antibiotic use.?
I just began a 5 day course of the antibiotic, Levaquin. I NEED to begin taking massive doses of pro-biotics after wards so that I don't get a yeast infection soon after. There are so many to choose from. I know to get them from a reputable health food store and they must be refrigerated. My question is more about what brands have others found the best and at what doses.?Health Question & Answer

Here are some excellent brands:

Nature's Way Intensive
Nature's Way Optima
Nature's Way ProBifia
Jarrow EPS (needs no refrigeration)
Renew Life FloraSmart (needs no refrig)
New Chapter All-Flora
Flora Udo's Probiotics for adults
Enzymatic Therapy Acidophilus Pearls (needs no refrig)
*just get whatever is in your price range out of these options.

*generally chewables and liquids are not as effective for the anti-yeast infection purposes, but they are great for tummy aches and sour stomach.

Take the recommended doses described on the package because they are specific for the potency of the product. If you take too few, they may do not do the trick. If you take too much you might get loose stools, although that's unusual. So, just stick with the rec'd amounts.

Don't take them with high-acid juices like cranberry, orange, grapefruit, etc since the fruit acid may inhibit the beneficial flora.

You can search the brands on google to see info on the products.

Good luck :)Health Question & Answer

It is really hard to know which is the "best" when it comes to probiotics because it is very difficult to test for which ones you may be deficient in (even for the doctors that know how to find out).
Truth be told, any answer given here will just be personal opinion (I can give you my opinion if you'd like). There are many higher quality companies out there that are readily available and well priced... just make sure the company has a good rating with either the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or USP (U.S. Pharmacopoeia), as those are the main quality assurance organizations (USP is for the U.S., GMP is for the U.S. and worldwide).

All that being said, if you get a good quality probiotic that has 3-6 billion viable organisms from 3-5 different strains. Good luck!Health Question & Answer
