Could someone recommend an all natural product that soothes chronic migraines? ?!

Question: Could someone recommend an all natural product that soothes chronic migraines.? .?
My mom suffers from chronic migraines that seem to hit her when she's gotten very little sleep or is stressed/anxious. They occur in the mornings and last throughout the day/ following days. Anyway, I would like to get her something for the holidays that would help with this. Perhaps, some sort of herbal tincture she could take or something to warm up and put on her head.? I would just like some recommendations for products that are all-natural and risk free (as far as odd side-effects are involved).

Thank you for your help!!

Happy Holidays :)Health Question & Answer

It's sweet of you to think of your mom like this, she is truly blessed...

If she is getting migraines when stressed/sleepless, medicine for the symptom of a headache is probably not the answer here because you already know what is causing the headaches. For herbal relief, you can get her some FeverFew and use the leaves as a tea. But to get to the source of her headaches, I would say she needs to monitor her blood pressure, reduce salt intake, practice breathing exercises for 2 minutes a day, and drink more water (if she drinks sodas or caffeinated beverages, it takes twice as much water to purge that from the body). She's a mom, she worries...and that worry may be keeping her up at night or causing her stress. If she finds she is not getting restful sleep (no dreams, waking every hour), it could be sleep apnea(stopping breathing) or dyspnea (irregular breathing), but can only be correctly diagnosed by going to a sleep center for evaluation. If she is overweight, losing some weight will help.Health Question & Answer

Get a few Feverfew plants, and your mum should eat two leaves a day from them. Every day, not only when she has a migraine. It is working as a preventative. In Australia we have a company that makes a feverfew based tablet, that works very well. I have several patients who using it regularly, one is my own daughter. That is probably the best solution.

Most of the things mentioned by the others will not work.Health Question & Answer

I would very much recommend meditation, there are so many benefits she could experience and many people with the same issue (migraines/very bad headaches) have experienced much improvement after practicing meditation.

Please get your mom to see a doctor. Chronic migraine and sleep issues can seriously affect her health. Having tried many "natural" concoctions myself, I'm convinced that those who formulated them never in their lives had a migraine headache.

I had a debilitating stroke at age 48 and the doctors are now pointing to my infrequent migraines and discovered that I also have sleep hypopnea/apnea. (I had little to no snoring, but had a hard time getting enough REM sleep). Thus, I had migraines and moderate sleep problems and was otherwise healthy. I had no family history of such problems, wasn't obese, had good cholesterol, and was a vegetarian for many years. I did have a stressful job though, and would often stay up late and woke up frequently at night. I had migraines every 3-6 months or so.

The doctors cannot find any other reasons for my stroke other than the migraines and/or the sleep issues. I think stress had something to do with it as well. My 17 year old daughter is the one who realized I was having a stroke and called 911 and quite possibly saved my life. I can no longer function in my former capacity and wish I would have paid closer attention and sought help sooner. I now have limited use of my right hand along with cognitive and memory issues.

I'd recommend that your mom get treated for her migraines and also to get tested, if possible, in a sleep clinic if she has sleep issues.
It is important.

Good luck,

P.S. These are the signs of a stroke. Don't wait, call 9-1-1 if the person has two or three of these symptoms:

SUDDEN numbness or weakness of face, arm or leg - especially on one side of the body.

SUDDEN confusion, trouble speaking or understanding.

SUDDEN trouble seeing in one or both eyes.

SUDDEN trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.

SUDDEN severe headache with no known cause.Health Question & Answer

I used to get migraines and the old doctor really helped. old fashion family doctor. he told me only smart people get migraines ( now that is good bed side manner ) and he said once it has started there is nothing you can do but this is important. he said to become really really sensitive to yourself and your body and a migraine always will say it is coming. on getting any weird feelings or sensations take a couple of aspirin. notice how many you take a day and don't start popping an aspirin at any sensation. but if your condition was like mine well then it is like you get a weird feeling and you think opps ooohhh nnnnoooo. so far I touch wood I have never had any pain as bad as a migraine. p s I am not a doctor this is just me relating my been there done that experience and p s why don't you ask this question to you doctor.?Health Question & Answer
