I have had back surgery in my lumbar spine, L4/L5 discs. The best thing I have found for this kind of problem is hanging upside down via inversion therapy. Every time you hang upside down you are actually getting the same effects of a mini massage because the traction you experience stretches out your muscles and essentially pulls the knots out of those problem areas. also, your spine gets elongated naturally, hence straightening out your back and spine and when this happens those nerves that surround your spine are not bothered by those tense muscles anymore. also, it's probably you ab muscles that are giving you problems and you don't even know it. Inversion therapy with an EZ Up Inversion system (only costs $149.00 so if you get 3 massages you'll probably pay close to $200.00 for that) or an Inversion Table works for me every time.Health Question & Answer

The type of massage partly depends on the location and cause of the discomfort. If you have degrading joints, then massage might help the surrounding tissues but cannot help the actual cause. Some techniques are more 'physical' than others so not all will be ideal.

I learnt basic massage and honestly believe that it can make a positive contribution to well-being even if a lot of the benefit is psychological. That's fine - that's where we live. If it helps you to relax and eases discomfort, I'd call that a win, whatever the mechanism by which it achieved those results.Health Question & Answer
