I've got a couple questions for you. First and foremost, are you taking an acid blocker.? Prescription (and OTC) acid blockers (like to help with acid reflux) are one of the most notorious drugs for this exact side effect that doctors tend to gloss over... if you don't have enough acid in your stomach, it won't digest many things including most tablets. That's the first question I ask when someone says they didn't digest a tablet because so many doctors don't think about or don't realize the fact that your body needs stomach acid to digest food regularly... in fact, people on them long-term tend to have a lot of bone problems and malnutrition issues.
If you are taking an acid blocker, that's the problem. I would look for an alternative for the heartburn/reflux and let your body produce the stomach acid it needs.

Second, have you tried capsules.? Capsules are just a thin layer of gelatin between your stomach and the powdered nutrients inside... even with low stomach acid, your stomach should eat through that within minutes. Hardly anyone has problems digesting capsules at all.

All that being said, if you are having a problem with digestion, a good digestive enzyme complex would probably be your best bet. That should help you digest more, and switching to capsules can help you get your nutrients. You could also consult a nutritionist or dietitian to see if there are other nutrients you may be lacking. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

Take your vitamin with a full meal, just after you finish eating. That will help keep in in the system long enough to hopefully dissolve a bit more. Most non-chewable vitamins actually do make it through people fairly well unabsorbed, usually because they are coated and it doesn't come off in time. Chewable vitamins are actually best, and a children's chewable will provide you with adequate amounts of the vitamins and minerals you need, especially if taken on a daily basis. I'm surprised your doctor didn't already suggest this as a solution. You also don't need to take a fancy name brand sort either, the store brand chewable is just fine.Health Question & Answer

Be sure you are buying high quality supplements and not the junk at GNC. Chewable or liquid vitamins will eliminate this problem. My suggestion is to take a good digestive enzyme supplement with your vitamins. Your body is most likely lacking enzymes and taking an enzyme supplement will ensure the proper breakdown of the pills.Health Question & Answer
