Is there a good source for objective scientific information from a holistic perspective?!

Question: Is there a good source for objective scientific information from a holistic perspective.?
I disagree with a lot of the mainstream dogma (Pop a pill for everything, diseases are caused by genetics not dietary and lifestyle factors, saturated fat is bad, etc.) There are a lot of cures out there in the world of holistic health, but you can't believe everything on this side of the fence either.
Are there any good books/websites out there which
(1) are very scientific and cite actual medical studies
(2) Don't follow mainstream dogma
(3) Review a lot of alternative theories, including diagnosis and cureHealth Question & Answer

The US National Center for Complementary and Alternative medicine is a division of the National Institute of Health. They use federal money to fund investigation into potential uses and the viability of what is traditionally outside mainstream medicine, or called CAM.

They have very accurate summaries of the current studies done on various treatments, isolate useful compounds and methods in them and promote further research. They're generally an excellent source of information. A lot of it is fairly well presented in a format that's accessible to someone without a very hard grounding in bio and chemical sciences, though they do link to the actual studies - some of these are located in journals however, and you may need access to that to read more than the abstract or PMID info.

They've come up with a number of useful things, and new directions to point research in. They've also more or less tossed a some of CAM's sacred cows into the waste bin.Health Question & Answer

There is a lot of research around for everything but unfortunately the quality is not always good.
Being a non US trained Osteopath, personally I can offer you a lot of anecdote but not much else as its all very subjective. However that doesn't mean that I am deluded, ineffective, my patients are stupid, my patients are being scammed, etc. etc.

I think i am quite a grounded realistic practitioner but you can only take my word for it.
I've met Osteopath who seem to think they can treat anything including the weather (fortunately not to many of them), so unless they have some incredible skill it can be very subjective.

What is glaringly overlooked in research is that conventional medical research is also very poor quality.
Drugs companies hire people to design testing models and test the drugs they developed for safety and efficacy. These results are them submitted to the FDA.

I used to work for a company that conducted independent audits for large businesses. You can bet your bottom dollar they wanted to agree with the books submitted to them because otherwise the following year that company would find another 'Independent' Auditor to go through their books. Was the company without bias.?
The same concepts apply with testing drugs. As a company you've spent millions developing it and you want it on the shelves. What do you do.? You hire 'independent' people that will help you do that.

During drug testing in double blind controlled trials it is usually east to spot who is taking what by monitoring the side effects.

I also have to question the reductionist model. It aims to eliminate all other factors and show that one thing affects everything.....
Do we know that one thing affects everything.?
Do we know what all the other factors are.?
Do I know if I am affected by a fellow crying out 'whoops' on alternate thursdays standing on the opposite side of the world.? How can i know this if I don't even know if its happening or if it has an consequences to me..?

I Advocate a centrally funded testing body with tests all medicine and treatment protocols + designs the experimental model. This way the testing is properly independent and without bias. Anyone providing health-care should have to pay-into this fund.Health Question & Answer
