If hypnotherapy works, why don't the NHS prescribe it for smoking cessation?!

Question: If hypnotherapy works, why don't the NHS prescribe it for smoking cessation.?
Answers:
Essentially hypnosis is just a very relaxed state. There is no such thing as a trance or 'altered' state. The brainwaves of people under hypnosis do not alter. People may or may not be more suggestible. Stage hypnosis in particular can be described as a tacit agreement between two people to play act the roles of hypnotist and subject.

Hypnosis for smoking cessation only works if people are very motivated. It is no more successful than any other method, in the range of about 20%. As you mentioned, it can be very expensive as well. The NHS is wise to not waste money on unproven techniques with marginal success rates at the best of times.Health Question & Answer

Actually, it's because it doesn't work for everyone. Not everyone is susceptible to hypnosis. It's partially about being able to enter a relaxed state (you're basically partially asleep where your brain is open to suggestion, but your body can still move without waking you) and about wanting to do it. Simply put, hardly anyone could be hypnotized to do something that they just flat out don't want to do deep down... it's almost impossible to hypnotize someone to kill someone they like, for example (extreme example, but still).

If someone didn't really want to quit smoking (whether because of addiction, stress relief, or whatever), hypnosis probably won't help them at all... they have to want to quit for it to have a real chance. I hope I helped!Health Question & Answer

they probably do in some PCT's but it isn't universal.
We are all different so will respond differently to various treatments.
Hypnotherapy may be effective for some people but not others. if you want to find someone who is any good look for personal recommendations. If the same name keeps coming up that generally suggests they are good practitioners.

I used to smoke and stopped after I read a book "The Easy way to stop Smoking" by Allan Carr.
It should really be called "The simple way to stop smoking" but hey....
It explains to you how nicotine is Psychologically addictive (the physical addiction passes within 3 weeks) and helps you to understand why you keep starting again. Nicotine is such an odd addiction. its very powerful and has such a grip but has physical side effects which are negligible. They are so mild that it won't even wake you up if you are in a deep sleep.
Try taking gear of a heroine addict and see if he sleeps in.

The book costs US$10. if you smoke 1 pack of cigarettes less as a result of reading the book it will have paid for itself.Health Question & Answer

there isn't even universal agreement that there is such a thing as a trance. and anyhow, it may just be reducible to willpower, and whether you want to give up smoking. it seems that there's nothing like going cold turkey, and if you really want to give up then it might be an idea to see a hypnotherapist to bring out those intentions more strongly into your conscious.
nicotine replacement therapy replaces one addiction with another; the same substance in another form. it remains expensiveHealth Question & Answer

It's not a reliable method and there can be side effects, not least, a headache.Health Question & Answer

Because it costs too much money.Health Question & Answer
