Answers:
Flax seed is THE best source of Omega 3 fatty acids and is beneficial to all - especially women. Top doctors and nutritionists say that everyone should eat some flax seed everyday. Current research, though still small in nature, shows real promise from all sorts of ailments. Woman supplemented with flax seed who had breast cancer tumors actually showed a reduction in the tumors. (About 85% of them and that is HUGE.) It is showing promise with cancer, heart disease, diabetes, blood pressure, menopause, osteoporosis, and macular degeneration.

As far as the form ... the actual ground seeds have the most benefits. Not only do you get the nutritional benefits, but the essential fiber we all seem to lack. The liquid is the second best choice and also shows the most promise as far as dry eye and macular degeneration go. The seeds can be red or brown and there is no nutritional difference between the two. I take the ground seed because you can never go wrong on upping your fiber intake.

I have seen a difference in my skin, hair, nails for one thing. I have also noticed some joint pain I was experiencing has gone away completely. My eye doctor actually recommended it last year because my eyes were getting dry and it has honestly helped a lot there. My energy has increased and I've been sleeping better as well. This has also shown to be a benefit of taking Omega 3 and 6's period. The research alone is reason enough to take it in my opinion.

I put it in my protein shakes, oatmeal, yogurt, pancake mix, cookie and muffin mixes, and on salads. You can also put it into any kid of hamburger/ground turkey meal (meatballs, meatloaf, taco meat, etc.) Another yummy way to eat it is to use it as a healthy "shake and bake" and just coat your fish or chicken with it and bake away!

Since the ground seed is the most beneficial you really so need to put it on or in something as you wouldn't want to swallow it dry! The liquid you can put in a smoothie or protein shake. If you're brave you can just take a tablespoon twice a day, but it's not very tasty! ;-)

I study nutrition constantly and it was my minor in college. Flax seed is something I will take for the rest of my life. There are proven benefits and no negative side effects that I have seen or read about. A web site I use often and trust completely is Dr. Weil's website. He is a genius and an actual MD who believes in a natural approach to health. It's a great resource to have available!

Hope some of this helped at least! ;-)

Peace to you ...

It provides omega-3 oils- a source of healthy fats, as well as a good dose of healthy fiber.

Ground flax seed can be added to baked things in exchange for a bit of the oil- cookies, breads, pancakes etc. You can add it to your breakfast oatmeal, too.

You can definitely feel ground flax seed, it adds a denseness and texture to your cookies, so its best in cookies that already have texture- cookies and breads made from whole wheat or oats.

I haven't noticed a specific benefit to my health- omega 3s help with triglyceride levels in the blood- but i don't check my cholesterol enough to notice. I also don't eat it regularly, just add it to my cookies for health reasons and because I like the texture.
Ive never tried it any other way.Health Question & Answer

I don't know what was beneficial to others, but the way I like flax seed is in flax seed bread. I have two kinds of flax seed bread here, the 9 grain type and the thin small slices which are only 50 cal. but the other is 100 cal.

I need flax seed because of an intestinal disease called dysbiosia. I'm convince this really helps. My doctor doesn't help with this at all....I discovered this through reading books by Jordan Rubin & his colleague Braskin. also read Dr. Don Colbert's books....he knows a great deal about preventing cancer. Anyway, it does help if you have any kind of bowel problems I think. It's for better health. I tried the flax seed cereal and didn't like it but it's fine in the toast. I always toast the bread and use real butter (healthier than marg.).Health Question & Answer
