Do psychedelic drugs really make the world appear as it truly is?!

Question: Do psychedelic drugs really make the world appear as it truly is.?
"If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man as it is, infinite."

When you take psychedelic drugs, do they really make the world appear as it is, or is that a false statement. I've been looking at psychedelic art and it seems that the artists had a real perspective of the actual world around them. Jim Morrison did drugs, and his poetry and music is extraordinary. Did drugs "cleanse the doors of perception" for him.? Basically, Im asking if drugs make the world appear as it truly is, or do we never really have the correct view of reality.Health Question & Answer

Nice quote.

Ah, to be a psychonaut....

To be honest, about 290 out of the 300+ times I've tripped, I've done it alone to try to gain perspective on both the world and myself. I personally feel that there is a lot of validity to the statement that psychedelics can help someone to obtain a clearer vision of themselves, problems, they are faced with, and the world around them. It's not random things that don't matter in the world. They teach you to see things from other perspectives, make you realize that you're just one person, and your beliefs are no more important than anyone else's. They are, however, you beliefs, and they are one of the most valuable things you possess. I feel that psychedelics allows the person to fuse these two ideas together and live at harmony with the world that they exist in.

On the effects of using psilocybin, erowid writes:

"One of the most interesting effects is the feeling of awakening for the first time ever from a previous state of sleep, of liberation from what is now seen as a life-long state of bondage. Paradoxically, it is this new awareness which feels normal and natural and the previous fog which is seen to have been unreal all along. The bemushroomed seeker is convinced that, once gained, this awareness is impossible to lose, but inexplicably by the next day it is just a memory."

The main goal of anyone who uses psychedelics for the correct reasons is to try and make the experience (being awakened, enlightened, whatever you wish to call it) something that they have assimilated into their mind. Once you do that, you really won't even need psychedelics any more.

To anyone who has never done drugs, or who uses psychedelic drugs at parties to just get f-ed up, they really can't comment about this aspect of psychedelic usage.Health Question & Answer

No, they tend to give you temporary hallucinations and can also create a psychotic state.

Jim Morrison was a poet and an artist. He might be still around if he didn't do drugs.Health Question & Answer
