I worked my way through college as a bartender and this was the most effective cure I've ever found:

Put a teaspoon of sugar in your mouth and suck it until it dissolves. It's that simple. I've rarely seen it fail. It might take one or two tries, but almost always works.Health Question & Answer

It seems like no one understands the way hiccups work. While there are all sorts of crazy remedies, you must first understand how hiccups work. They are caused by having air in your stomach that your body can't quite burp up--this almost always means there is some foamy bubbly substance in your stomach. While people say there are ways better than drinking water, that is just because they have a fundamental misunderstanding of hiccups. If you drink the water very carefully so that NO AIR GETS SWALLOWED, drinking water can be the perfect way to get rid of even the worst hiccups--it's all about technique. Try to burp (push hard!) throughout the process and this will combine with the water to wash your hiccups away!Health Question & Answer

Since hiccups are caused by a spasming diaphragm (that's the big muscle attached to the bottom of your rib cage), you need to massage your diaphragm. Have fun.Health Question & Answer
