Can a hypothyroid patient safety use Apple Cider Vinegar?!

Question: Can a hypothyroid patient safety use Apple Cider Vinegar.?
My friend is on Bragg's unpasteurized ACV with "Mother" for weight loss. Is that safe for hypothyroid patients on thyroid replacement therapy.? She takes a shot glass every few hours during the day.Health Question & Answer

Hi there - Short answer is that there's no biochemical/pharmacologic interference between apple cider vinegar and thyroid meds (synthetic or porcine.)

There is a relationship, of course, between hypothyroidism and weight gain and the ACV may help to resolve some of the underlying digestive issues that are contributing to the thyroid problem. It's a rather long and interconnected set of pathways, so I wont get into it here... if you're interested, please feel free to email me.

The long and short of it is that if the ACV corrects an underlying digestion issue the thyroid issue may also resolve (or at least improve.)

If she's on thyroid meds, she should be having semi-regular blood tests to check her dose. (Standard procedure.) This is good, because it will show up on these routine tests if her dose needs to be reduced because the ACV is doing it's job. :)Health Question & Answer
