Question: How can one tell the difference between Lower back pain that is caused by Kidney Yang deficiency vs. Yi.?
It seems like Lower back pain could be caused by both kidney yin and/or kidney yang.... how can one tell if they are kidney yin or yang deficient.?.... is the pain and soreness different between the 2 type of pains that could hint one or the other.?Health Question & Answer

Never make the mistake of jumping to a diagnosis based on a single symptom! This applies in western medicine and it goes double for Traditional Chinese Medicine.
You have to look at the totality of the symptoms. Check tongue. Check pulses. Zoom out a little and look at the whole case. If you do that, it's much easier to differentiate between a yin deficiency and a yang deficiency. Look for the classic, hallmark differences.
