HSV 1 and HSV 2 herpes?!

Question: HSV 1 and HSV 2 herpes.?
hi there, i've just found out i have Genital herpes. my doctor said its only contagious if i have an outbreak .
i've read that you still can pass it on to others if u have no symptoms and also its also not very likely to have both oral HSV 1 and genital HSV 2 herpes at the same time since your body already have the antibodies to prevent the other type.

so lets say i have HSV 2 herpes and somebody who is completely healthy perform oral sex on me, can they get HSV 1 herpes..?

and what is the difference between HSV 1 and cold sore.?

is that true that if u keep taking medication for a long time ( 5 yrs) then the virus will be weaken down and u will be less contagious.?

please help...Health Question & Answer

Your doctor lied to you. About 75% of people who have it got it from a partner that didn't know they had it. Most of the time, that means a partner that had never had an outbreak.

The types are a little confusing. HSV1 means the virus lives in the nerves in your neck. HSV2 means the virus is in your tailbone area. HSV1 is usually oral and HSV2 is usually genital, but they can live in either area. So if you have HSV2 and only HSV2, you can only pass that strain of the virus. Your partner can get HSV2 orally.

Cold sores are HSV1, usually. There's no real difference.

Yes, if you take medication for several years (I'd say 10 is more likely than 5) it is possible you will be less contagious and have fewer outbreaks. It's not the case for everyone, but it's certainly possible.

First I don't know why your doctor told you that you can't pass it unless you are having an outbreak because that's not true. You can pass it at anytime. Not to mention, sometimes you might be about to have an outbreak and don't know it.

I never heard anything about the 5 year thing, however the first year is supposed to be your worst year. If a guy performs oral, yes he can get oral herpes.Health Question & Answer
