Is too much water bad?!

Question: Is too much water bad.?
Well, here's my situation.
I was talking to my friend, and I asked her if drinking too muc hwater is bad. She said yes, and I'm someone who drinks ONLY water. No juice, no soda, and I make an exception for when I'm eating cereal, I drink the milk. I understand that an OVERDOSE of water is bad, but what if you drink water only when your thirsty, and when your eating a meal.? Is that bad.? Thanks in advanced =(

*BTW, I only eat cereal, maybe every other week.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
although I dont think it will happen to you, there is indeed a condition called water intoxication, it happens usually to athletes, runners.

What happens is that the normal balance of the electrolytes is altered do to the high amount of water being consumed.

Too much water can cause your brain to swell, and you kidneys wont be able to work fast enough to remove all that water form your sytem.

SO this will change the osmolarity pressure on the cells on your body,

blood will become more dilute.you brain swells, and since the the brain has nowhere to expand, it will compress important centers that
regulate vital funtions like breathing.

but as I said, this is extremely rare for an ordinary person. Usually it happens to athletes or in drinking contests....Health Question & Answer
