Will putting pure alcohol on a cold sore help it to heal?!

Question: Will putting pure alcohol on a cold sore help it to heal.?
I have had a cold sore on my chin for the last 2 days, and it is huge.

I have been using 'Virasolve' (ingredients: idoxuridine, lignocaine hydrochloride, benzalkonium chloride)

This cream has however, appeared to have burnt the skin surrounding the actual sore. It now looks way worse, and is really red all around the coldsore, and hurts like hell. I don't even want to leave the house as it is so hideous.

I am trying to use pure vodka on the sore to help dry it out. Is this going to help at all.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
No believe it or not alcohol can make your cold sore worse. It can contribute to more cold sore. Afterall, cold sores are nothing but the herpes virus. DO NOT USE ALCOHOL!

Use abreva, dynamiclear or zovirax. These help to reduce the time that a cold sore is on the skin.Health Question & Answer

Tell your physician the next time you are in for a visit that you get recurrent "fever blisters" and more than likely he/she will prescribe something like famvir to keep on hand then take one the instant you feel the fever blister coming on. In most cases this will actually prevent the fever blister from coming up. The trick is to always have at least one of the pills in your purse or pocket at all times, as you never know when they are going to appear. They almost always come up in the same area. Usually there is a little twinge of sensation or possibly one sharp pain just before they appear. They almost always give some sort of warning.Health Question & Answer

I tried using dissolved aspiring (kind of made a paste) put it onto a small cold sore on my lip and it helped it go away in a day or two, or at least made it seem to go away much faster.

I have NO scientific basis for this answer, so take my answer, with that caveat in mind.Health Question & Answer

If it is interior then there are oragels that you can use and if it is exterior then you can use campho phenique (not sure i spelled this right). good luck..Health Question & Answer
